TFA Koolada melted syringe?

Hi all,

I did some searching, but didn't find anything about this. I tried using TFA's Koolada for the first time today. As soon as I pulled some into a 1 mL syringe, I noticed that the syringe was sticking, and the Koolada in the syringe quickly started getting very cloudy (it looks completely clear in the glass bottle it came in). Has anyone else had this experience?

I noted the exact same with mine!

First down was a 1ml syringe, lost due to barrel plunger froze in place (but not melted like what happens with Anise oil :))

Second was a 3ml syringe, it got so sticky I had to toss it due to the plunger kept sticking bad in it too.

Then I started using a glass syringe with it, but after each use there would be a film build up in the end of the barrel, sometimes so bad it would almost clog. The film buildup was thick, and turned to a hard solid when dry. I had to scrape it out with a metal hanger each time and then try to clean/scrape/clean, ect and sometimes it took a while to get it all out. So I just stopped using it and assumed that was normal and something you had to deal with or not use that flavoring.

I do know it didn't happen when the vial was new, it only started after about half the vial was used (Several months later). I thought it may have something to with the overall actual flavoring chem/alc % vs the increased actual flavoring chem % later on as the alc evaporated more, eventually leaving less alc as time went on making the total koolada % higher and higher as timed passed. Especially since it seemed to get worse the closer I got to the bottom of the bottle as the weeks/months went by.

I do believe the above is the cause, not a bad batch/bottle, because aside from this issue the flavoring was fine and worked as it's supposed to (And still does, if I'd use it :))

I used Koolada for the first time today. It clouded up the dropper I was using. It was fine while I was using it. It happened when I was rinsing the dropper in hot water. I thought it was glass but after that happened--I'm almost positive it's plastic. I only use it for Sweetener, EM, Koolada & menthol. I suspect strong menthol would have done the same thing to it.

I really do think that's what's going on, at least with mine and I'd assume the OP too since it sounds like the exact same thing happening.

Mine didn't start acting like that until it was about half gone, and I think that was at least 4-8 months after purchasing it and it having been opened many times, so I think it just lost more and more alc over time and eventually became a bit too strong for normal use without presenting oddities. I bet it we were to add a little more PG or alc it would act normal again.

Maybe someone could email Linda and ask if these things might happen when the concentration is a little higher than normal, I bet it's an immediate yes :)

Are you seeing any crystalization at the neck of the bottle or on the threads of the bottle.?

Yes, and that happened early on too while it was still maybe 3/4 full.

I posted pics of it a while back, I'll see if I can find them and link here - one sec

Here in Rin13's thread, I posted this pic when a lot of us were trying to figure out if the initial chem was a crystal or not
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/401606-koolada-5.html

There I say the bottle is getting low, and that same one is now a little under half, so I assume it was between 3/4 to a 1/2 back then.

I linked to some suppliers and datasheets on page 6, maybe someone could figure out something in regards to these issues from that info? if not, someone will have to eventually ask Linda if it bothers them enough, but I do not think it means the Koolada is bad.

I have the same problem with Koolada. I use the small pipettes and throw them away after use. It is fine until I try to rinse with water and the pipette gets cloudy and murky. I suspect it would do the same thing with a plastic syringe so I stick with pipettes because they're cheap and pitch them when I'm finished mixing.
