Glad you found your way here! I "lurked" in the background for a few months and eventually got into vaping. I was fed up with being addicted to "analogs" then nico-gum. My parents have been vaping a few years and things have really come a long way in a short time. Thanks to them I've been able to get in "on the cheap" without wasting too much money. However, I've found that vaping is so enjoyable that I'm spending more money than I ever thought I would.
DIY has to be the way to go if you have some electronic experience. Do not despair if you don't; there are tons of tips and tricks to safe DIY mixing and rebuilding.
When I'd wake up in the morning, all I wanted was a cigarette. Later on a piece of gum. Now, I don't have that nic craving I used to, and I can now enjoy coffee without getting that desire for an analog that I'd get years after quitting. I love vaping! :)
Although I still spend about 20 dollars a week on flavoring, my goto mix is still peppermint (one drop per ml). It's a great base for mixing other flavors and experimenting.
After trying out cotton in various forms (see my signature link) I've settled on square-braided wicks for a vape that is beyond all silica that I've tried. That's my :2c: :)

JazzyTech,
It's pretty cool that your family got you into vaping. When I first started to vape attys and cartridges were the norm. There were tons of diy cartridge refill stuff on the web; and I think I found this forum because of the flashlight mod tutorials. Back then I really wanted a totally wicked pen style, and dreamed about the silver bullet [btw which is one the oldest mods out there (and it's still rocks)]. Ecigs were pretty expensive back then comparable to the ones they sell at the mall. I ended up getting a job selling them at the mall which burnt me out and switched jobs and gave up vaping for a bit. And today vaping is one of my hobbies :) Currently I'm admiring the rebuildable atomizers, tried the vivi nova clearomizers, and using a smoktech tank right now. Tanks are not as trendy right now as the used to be...but out of everything I have right now this is my current favorite juice dispensing medium. I've got an 808-d1 tank and a 510 tank. Since I share with friends it's easy to just hand them a prefilled tank instead of filling cartos or driping attys for them. I Really want a JonBoy Lava Tank or a Evolution Tank, but for now I'm thinking about buying a few more tanks from smoktech on sale to keep filled with different juices. Would love to hear about your setup

I Thanks to the family info I started out with a 510/eGo 900mah 3.7V passthrough. Bought 3 of them (the wife enjoys a vape now and then). I have 4 Vision Startdusts, 1 vivi nova mini (great durable mini tank!) and 1 vivi nova tank(4ml). I rebuild 'em all myself.
Great cheap way to get going and stay off the analogs, and since I wanted to get more involved I did more research here on ECF to see what most folks thought about PVs and RBAs.
After awhile I realized that it would take some time to get real high quality RBA (still very much a cottage industry). I was surfing the Net a few days back and saw the "SmokTek Hyper SRT II" on gotvapes.com (just a customer) and it looked pretty good for 20 bucks. I did what most do (I suppose) and had a look on youtube to see what PBusardo had to say about it. He'd only done a quick review and didn't have much at all good to say about it. But I noticed right off that the version he had wasn't the one being advertised on gotvapes. His version had a metal top plate and no fill hole (he had to stab through the wick to fill). The one on gotvapes doesn't have a metal top plate (which is what I want for modifying). I went ahead an took a chance. Long story short, I'm glad I did!
It's an RBA and as such just must be modded :) First thing I did was yank the silica wick (I don't do silica, only cotton). I rolled my kanthal (A-1 32awg 5 wraps 2.8 ohm), enlarged the wick holes to accomodate my #1/0 square braid cotton wick and loaded up my favorite juice. Man.. I'm no expert but this thing vapes sweet! Good strong heat and TH, nice strong flavor like I've never experienced before on any 510.
Part of the great vaping is also due to the fact that the Provari that I ordered last week finally arrived :) I'd read time and again people who had stated they wished they had just went straight to a provari. So I figured I'd skip wasting any more money than necessary and get one. Again, I'm no expert, but this thing is nothing short of amazing.. I can't say anything that hasn't already been said about it.
Knowing that I'm no expert, I decided to take my new tank to my father who's has a lot more experience than me. After vaping about 3 minutes on the SRT, he went straight to gotvapes and ordered one for himself. :) Only downside I've experienced so far is that my juice mix (I DIY) is now much too strong and I'll need to reduce the nicotine substantially. :) So that's my "life vape story" so far :vapor:
