That's it. That's as low as I'm going.

Man, time sure does disappear when I'm building coils! Every time I try to "just build 1 setup", I end up trying like 3 more times after that. It's good practice I must say, but the weekends are going by quickly these days. :)

Anyway, my last build of the day is a 3-strand parallel dual-coil. 4 wraps around a 1/8" punch with 28ga kanthal, leaving me at 0.2Ω. UD IGO-W7 by the way.

At 4.2V this coil will draw 21A, so the power is 88.2W. My batteries are rated 30A continuous so technically they'll take more, but I'm not willing to find out where the limit is. Besides, I'm getting so much vapor off a 1-second pull that I'm plenty happy. Tastes great, too.

Speaking of flavor, I splurged and picked up an authentic Magma rda. Mmm-mmm-mmm this thing makes flaaavor when you buiild it right!

Looks good. Works well. Tastes great. Leak-proof, comparted to my other RDA's. Worth $100? I say it would be, if they finished making the thing. The threads between the deck piece and the cap have burrs all over them. It actually feels smooth when you assemble, but cotton (and everything else) sticks to it like it's Velcro. I have a $17 atty with cleaner threads. It was also rather dirty/oily out of the box, and required a good cleaning before I was willing to inhale through it. That's not terrible, but in this price range I thought all the little details would be taken care of. The packaging was nice... :yawn:

Running dual-coil with 7 wraps of 28ga kanthal per coil, finishing at 0.69Ω. It runs a bit hot on long pulls, but it heats nice 'n' quick and as soon as my DNA 40 shows up (!) she's goin' on there. Both of the builds in this post are going to love that regulated current! Oh boy oh boy, tomorrow, maybe the next day....I can't wait! More when that arrives.

Peace

I typically vape at 0.3-0.4 ohms. I do however have a Mutation X at a hair under 0.2 ohms right now and that's also as low as I will probably ever go. Still quite safe with 30A batteries and it lets me experiment with different higher power atty builds.

FYI, you are not vaping that setup at 88 watts. You have voltage drop under load to consider. Your battery is seeing the whole 88 watt, 21A discharge, but your coils after voltage drop are probably seeing around 65 watts with freshly charged batteries.

Thanks for the input! I was using those numbers to show that I'm not over-discharging my batteries, didn't mean to sound brag-y. I haven't gotten into testing under load - is that really necessary for safety, or can I rely on Ohm's law and my muitimeter? Or are my setups far enough from exceeding the limits of the batteries that it's not even an issue?

Thanks again.

You're welcome. I didn't think you were 'brag-y' at all Ayloxs, I was just passing on some info that I thought would help :). A lot of people don't understand this stuff.

You can certainly rely on only using Ohm's law and a multimeter for resistance and battery voltage. I always check atty resistance when I build one. Helps me assure that I did it right and that the screws are tight. 0.2 ohms is pretty safe with 30A batteries. The most important thing safety wise IMO is to avoid shorts. Next on my list is when I try a new coil setup I want to make sure I didn't make a mistake with the resistance I thought I would get.

I do check V-drop under load to monitor battery health over time. I have a 0.5 ohm atty that I use for this so it's the same all the time and I do it on a couple of known mods that are very similar. If atty or mod resistance change, this number will change. As batts age their internal resistance goes up and this will increase V-drop under load significantly.

@Ryedan:
Great, now I know how to monitor battery health! Yet again, thanks :)

@SLIPPY_EEL:
Yea, the airflow on the Magma is definiitley very, very tight by my standards. I can make the 30-or-so minute drive to work on 1 filling with it though, so no dripping & driving. It's lookin' like it's going to be one of many atomizers - not my favorite, but it has its' place. Just happens to be an expensive place :ohmy:

Most of my builds are dual coil either 6-wrap 24g kanthal or 8-wrap 24g nichrome around 5/64. Both come out the .21 ohm nearly every time. Its a perfect vape.
Occasionally, if I am building something more complicated with more coils, I will drop a little bit lower. I rarely build higher than that though. I've never had a battery vent. If it did, I would chuck my mod and try to salvage anything afterward. But my high-drain batteries don't even get warm, so its not something I worry about.

Pretty much most of my rda setups meter between .16 and .2 Same experience here. No warm batteries to date. no venting. etc.

You'd have to check the voltage under load (meaning you hook up a multimeter to the two posts on the rda and fire the button briefly) to figure out the power.
If the voltage under load is 3 volts, you power would be : 3x3/0.2= 45 watts.
