I see a LOT of discussion here on the Ego/Riva... along with all the other fancy/schmancy big batt commercial mods, but outside the Modders forum the lowly box mod doesn't seem to get much love. I've been using one for months now (a Bartleby), and I can't think of a better combination of low cost, battery power and portability. I've purchased other devices like the ones in my sig, but for day-to-day use I can't imagine carrying anything else. I've converted my wife and two in-laws to e-cigs over the months, and after trying several different types they've ALL chosen the box mod for daily carry.

2AA Box Mod: $25(MadVapes)-$50.00 purchased(Bartleby for $50 includes two batteries).
14500 900 mAh battery: $4-$5.00.
Dual battery charger: $9.00.
Janty V2 Stick Belt Pouch: $6.00(just cut a hole for the button).

Looks like a cellphone, vapes like a monster... what's not to like? :)

Are the box mods just not sexy enough - or do they just not get enough press?

Discuss!

I really can't be bothered with something that big; my Tornado is small, looks good and performs really well. With a ZFM variant I can carry two-three carts and be set for the day, and one battery lasts that long.

Grenage I see the Bartleby as quite compact. Maybe it's because I like the belt-carry option and the longer "tube" type mods aren't as comfortable for that. I don't have a Tornado or similar mod, but I'm guessing a plastic box mod is probably a bit lighter, too...

I built a 2x14500 box mod 2 days ago and have to say I love the thing. You can't go wrong with a good box mod. I plan on buying some more boxes and improving the design. Not including the batteries/atomizer, I've got a 5v device for about $5.

Some people are more concerned with aesthetics than others and I can understand that but I've always been a "function over form" kind of guy.

Right there with ya! :D Built mine for less that $10 plus the cost of 2 14500 batts and a charger. Holds me over for 2 days of heavy vaping before needing charged. Plus its small and compact, fits in the palm of my hand. And if you build it yourself, you can customize it with any color of box (even clear), any led color or no led at all, any atty type or mutli-atty support. Im working a second that will have a small port on the bottom to allow for a 5v passthrough mode. :D The Box Mod is just plain sexy!
Happy Vaping!:vapor:

EDIT: Multi-Atty support = interchangable atties (ie. can use any type of atty)

Oh they definitely have their fans, I'm just not one of them. I can stick the tornado in a trim pocket and it takes up no real space, and when I get some of those 1000mah batteries, it'll probably do two days vaping on a charge.

Different people want different things, and I don't think box mods will ever appeal to the masses. I just want something that is small and performs well all day, it doesn't need to get me through a week on the front lines (and double as a close-quarters weapon). :)

I love my box mods... It was a lot of building over and over again to get to the one I'm at now, but this one is everything I need. 1600mAh battery, 10ml juice feeder, 5v TI booster, DC power jack with external charger to just plug in at computer. All in a 2x C battery box. Pocket sized, and I never have to even open the box except every 2-3 days to refill the bottle.

Just vape and go. Don't even have to think about carts or nothing.

Where did you find a 2X C battery box with a cover? All the ones I find don't have covers. (I use 2 X CR123) I think they might fit.
