You are dead-on on this one. I actually thought about this analogy some time ago after reading about the Pope's statements regarding condom use in Africa. He denounced the use of condoms and advocated abstinence instead. While he is certainly sure of his moral authority, one wonders about the morality of sentencing countless additional people to death by aids. The same goes for those who would turn their backs on cigarette smokers in pursuit of their lofty ideals.
