Can someone please help me to understand the benefits of using a Kick, specifically in a full mechanical mod with 18500 battery and an rba.

I get that it keeps the wattage constant and can also assure safety.

But what I don't get is why would you use a Kick if its maximum wattage is lower than the potential watts on a sub ohm build?

Having a smaller sized regulated device is one of the things I like.
The thing about using a kick without receiving maximum wattage from your RBA? You wouldn't.
Some people enjoy the look of their mechanical mods and would like the versatility of having VW without the clunkiness or other such features of other regulated mods.
All of it is about getting the best vape and some find that using a kick with a mech is best while others like their regulated.

I think there might be some sort of electronic explanation as well. Something about most regulated mods use a "pulse" to keep the voltage/wattage constant and a kick using some other way? I'm not terribly sure on that one.

When the Kick came out VV was not the norm and were pretty expensive. Then the kick gave people with unregulated mods a way to regulate with with out dropping a 100 plus dollars on a new mod.

Its still not a bad choice today add 50$ and now you have a mechanical or drop in the kick and you have a regulated mod.

Okay I pretty much get all of that. So basically kicks aren't really made for people who blow clouds? They are more for people who want decent vapor production but a consistent one right?

Basically, I like the way my vape hits at 4.2V on a 0.8 build. So would a kick keep it constant until the battery dies? Because without a kick, voltage tends to drop slowly as you use it. So you're telling me a lock would keep it at 4.2V for as long as it can?

I'm not sure what you mean, then again I don't know everything, especially about sub ohm vaping. Could you explain?

you can have a fully charged battery unloaded @4.2vdc Loaded it will drop down to like 3.5vdc (for example, I haven't checked myself) so if you do the math it will be around 15watts. but like I said, I have never checked the loaded voltage.

Yup you are correct.

Your 4.2v @ .8 ohms is 22 watts. The original kick was only good for 5 to 10 watts, and the kick2 is only good for 5 to 15 watts, so it would'nt do you any good if you need 22 watts.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying, why would people use a kick for subohm builds if its just counter productive?

The kick serves as a power booster but in subohm builds it doesn't boost anything. If the build without a kick would pull say 22 watts right? If I pop a kick in there set it to 15 watts it would essentially control the battery to tone it down some basically yeah?

Good timing on this thread - is this a good kick? The Kick by Smok Tech

Also, can I use this kick in a tube as small as an Origin? I think it's only like 17 mm across.

And can I kick a 18350 battery?

That's what I'm wondering too. Because there's no way I'm buying the real evolv kick lol 60 bucks .... I wonder if this smoktech one is any good.

Generally you would use a kick with a 18500 battery IN a 18650 tube. Sooo maybe a 18350 + Kick IN a 18500 tube?
