After being strictly a kr8 user since I started in December I finally took the plunge and tried a different pv. I bought some 302 atomizers and an adapter to use on my kr8 batteries. (following your advice). I can't believe how my juices taste different on it. Best of all I didn't have to invest in new batteries and charger. I still use kr8 carts when I'm on the go or when I don't feel like dripping.

And no I'm not a newbie but the 302 is new to me

I'm very intrigued by the 302. I started with a regular 510 and upgraded to an eGo within 3 days due to battery life. I love the eGo but the 302 looks so......elegant. I didn't see in your review what the mah on the 302 battery is; I'll google it, but how do you feel it compares to an eGo (if you've tried that particular model).

Thanks to all for your kind remarks! Sorry that I've been away for awhile.

Deafmomm, all penstyles (including the Joye 302) have 280 mAh batteries (same as the Kr8), so: much less than the Fat Batts (e.g., the 650 mAh eGO). That's one way the 302 compares to the eGO. The other is the atomizer: a very different experience than the 510, which you really need to try to appreciate. Most (not all) vapers I know who have tried the penstyle atty prefer it to the 510. The problem is that most people are put off by its length and have never even tried it. Not an issue for you apparently.

callofthevapor, glad you like the 302 atty. The Kr8 batt gives it an extra kick (beyond the penstyle's battery).

FYI to all: I have a new love:wub:: the EastMall 801 (also available from Vapor Junction, currently out of stock). Although not an "LR" atomizer, it is lower resistance than any standard penstyle atty (including the 302), so it hits harder. Also it has a less airy draw. I'm going to have to wait till I get a variable voltage mod (I've got my eye on the Little Sister) before I resume my love affair with the 302 ... or try HealthCabin's LR Joye 302 atomizer (which, at 1.5 ohms, I suspect may generate too many watts). Also check out IkenVape's 2.0 ohm LR 801 atomizer (which also is much shorter than the normal penstyle atty).

I think this is good info for newbies who were light to medium smokers but I smoked 3 packs a day ang had to upgrade almost immediately to my Riva. Buying the 510 was a waste of money for me. The Riva has a much longer battery life and much more vapor and throat hit. One has to get out of the mindset that one's PV must be cigarette-like in looks. Mine looks like an elegant stogie.

Before deciding on a mod, Kargonet, I recommend that you check out ViZi's comprehensive guide to mods: Tube and Box. The SB and BB are beautiful and great for their time, but there are now many others to consider. If I were to buy a mod today, I'd get a variable voltage (e.g., Buzz, Joker AV, Little Sister, Big Brother) or juice fed (e.g., Phidius Woodimus Feedimus, Reo, Ali'i, WetBox) ... although I continue to be tempted by the beauty of the Precious ("L" for him, "M" for you): similar form factor to the SB and BB, but much smaller (and more expensive).

Another newbie here. After reading the six-part guide and some other recommendations, I ordered the Tornado and have been doing OK with it. Pretty major change for me as a 50 year smoker. Only issue I've had is that the nicotine level in the cartridge seems to fall off fairly quickly. Have ordered some more e-juice from a couple of different suppliers. I sure hope that this is really the answer.

Well, Jimmy, you've got me beat. I was "only" a 40-year smoker.

As a new vaper, you understandably rely on cartridges. However, they are not that effective in delivering e-liquid to the atomizer. My solution is to drip; others use cartomizers (i.e., integrated carts and attys) ... and I've read good things about the Mega eGO/Tornado cartomizers.

Something else to consider is the atomizer: both the model and the resistance. The 510 is hugely popular, but it is not the only one (and it is not my personal favorite). I prefer the 801 (penstyle) and I've been reading good things about the Joye 306. The former would require an adapter to work on the Tornado; the latter does not. And with any atomizer, lower resistance will boost both the vapor and throat hit (what you experience as nicotine level). I talk more about atomizer resistance in Part II of my new, updated WWV Guide, on pages 1 and 5.

I know it is not the greatest on vapor or throat hit, but I love the taste of a 901 with banana e-liquid. The supplier I was getting them from no longer sells them, and haven't had good luck with madvapes. They die before their time. Could you please tell where I could pick up some 901 starter kits? Thank You

This page of my updated WWV guide lists the current inexpensive suppliers of the 901 that I've identified. For even more vapor, check out the 2.0 ohm LR 901 atomizers from IkenVape.

I have directed most of the 20 or so people at my work who are new to vaping to just pony up the money and buy either a hello016 battery and get some cartos or get an ego and do the same. The extended battery life and ease of use afforded by the cartomizer gives them a great device that should carry them all the way up to the time when they start looking for something a little more high end and better performance as well. I bought 15 hellos and 5 egos and bagged em with a 5 pack of cartos from ikenvapes ( the best cartos i have used aside form the new ceramics from royal smokers) a charger and 15ml of some great juice, either Alien Visions or Liquidxpress and Halo. Its been a great way to pay it forward like someone did for me and I have had an awesome time introducing a sizeable group of newbs to a great community and by far a much healthier option than analogs. I started like most with a dse 901 and didnt want them to endure the same mouthfuls of juice or headaches from drawing on an automatic battery. I have been buying a 100ml bottle of bobas bounty from ben every week it seems like and its now gotten to the point that i feel like its time for thisgroup to start placing there own orders and they have enough knowledge to make some informed purchases instaed of fumblimg around and wading threw reviews and bad purchases like me hehe.. Ecf has been invaluable as a resource but to be honest most are to intimidated to dive into the forums and start posting. I just started my self although I have been reading for some time now either here on youtube or nu-vapor.

Whoops! Jimmy, you describe yourself as a newbie, but I just noticed your Oct 2009 join date.

That is back when my nephew 1st sent me info on e-cigs. Of course, I procrastinated until now (actually Sept 17th) when my Tornado starter kit arrived from TW. Smoked one cig on the 18th and two drags on another cig last Thursday. That has been all, and I feel that I am finally done with tobacco after 50 years.

Thanks DonDaBoomVape!
Although I am still a little unsure of all the workings your explanation and recommendations have helped me as a soon-to-be vape. I purchased a disposable Veppo e-cig, not a good choice, but it did help to know what i am looking for in an e-cig: vapor and fit. I burned out the atomizer in the first day, but I now know why, thanks again. went through cignot.com to get the Joye 501 and my order has shipped (next day!!) also purchased juice from Backwoods Brew (no diacetyl) and am looking at trying tastyvapor, both of which I found on this wonderful forum.
Just wanted to let you know Thanks!!!
