Okay--maybe it's the carts and not the 5 volt mod--but I'm still having some problems and am hoping that someone out there can give further clarification --just beating a dead horse.

I didn't think I had mentioned the name of the device in my first thread-but I guess I did (the Big Kazoo). I want to be very careful not to knock a product if the issue is with something other than the device. Let me also say that James and his company have been great - they replaced the device and even gave me some free stuff. Their 3.7 Jambox is great but I am still having some issues with this 5 volt mod- or, as I suggested, maybe it's not the device but the carts-- I believe I can work this out with some recommendations. Here are the problems:

On recommendation I am using AW protected 14500 batteries but I'm still getting some cut off issues even with standard 510 cartomizers. Not all vendors post the ohm ratings of these carts--do I just need to find very high ohm cartomizers?

Are there different cut off protections on different 5 volt mods?

Also, the taste with cartomizers and atomizers is more often than not burnt. I'm sure there are threads with this issue so I'm just asking for some clarification.

Is anyone else having issues with this device? Is this an issue with other 5 volt box mods?

Thanks in advance

IMO their is nothing wrong with your Kazoo. The symptoms you describe are very similar to what alot of folks go through when they first experience 5v's.

Cut offs:
5V regulated mods will cut off when the batteries can no longer provide 5v. 2x14500's will give me about 8 hours in a regulated 5v mod box when I am off work and vaping heavy. 12 hours when I am working. However you must have a quality charger and good batteries and you must charge them fully. You did not mention what brand/kind of batteries or charger you have.

5v reg mods will also cut off if you use a carto or atty that is below 2.0 ohms or if the carto or atty is defective. This is for your protection. If you take a meter and read your cartos and attys you will typically find a fairly wide disparity in the resistance. If it's - 2.0 then don't use it on the box.

You get a burnt taste because the carto or atty is either not properly filled/soaked or your hitting it quicker than it can wick.

Hope this helps!

Thanks borockster,
I did mention that I am using AW 14500 protected batteries--but not the charger: TrustFire multifunctional.
This is happening with fully charged batteries which work great on my 3.7 box.
The cartomizers are standard 510--but I can't be sure of the ohm rating. What are you using?

Thanks

I use Boge cartos in the 2.2 to 2.5 range...sometimes even up to 3.0 if I am using a very mild juice that consistently tastes overheated or even burnt at lower resistance. For example...KBV's Arnie Palmer is one of my favorite juices but at 5v on anything less 2.5 ohms it totally loses the tea flavor and turns into straight lemon. Not bad but not as good as intended.

I also use Diamond dual coils that read at 1.7ohms but they work fine on 5v boxes and they give a great flavor with absolutely no burnt taste at all.

One thing IMO to absolutely stay away from on a 5v box is a CE2. They just don't wick fast enough to keep up. They always taste burnt at 5v. I know some folks have "mods" out there that supposedly fix the CE2 so they work great at higher voltages but I am not wasting my time modding something that costs 2 bux. I just use them at 3.7v and they work fine.
