Doggy -v- Insider -v- Exocet Shootout!
I’ve been using all 3 of these in rev 4 BB’s for the past few days trying to compare them in most aspects. I
vape a bit differently than most so your experience with these attys may vary. I tested them all at high omhs and low watts and at low ohms and high watts…
For my tests I used the following general setups: 1.6 to 1.8 ohms vaped @ 11 to 12 watts and 0.7 to 0.9 ohms vaped @ 24 to 25 watts
The contenders:
Insider:
Doggy:
Exocet:
Build:
Ease of build is a difficult one because everyone builds differently. For me, I find the Doggy was the easiest to build followed by the Exocet and then the Insider comes in last. If you are use to building on a Kayfun then that makes building the Insider a little easier but it’s still a bit finicky. I found myself having to adjust the cotton length after building and getting dry hits. Once you nail the insider build down, it does become easier.
1. Doggy: Spacious and dead simple to build on.
2. Exocet: A little cramped but pretty simple to build on
3. Insider: Also a little cramped and getting the cotton right will be difficult for some
I found that with the Insider it’s best to use less cotton than in the others. What I mean is make it snug in the coil but not tight. With the Doggy and the Exocet I find the cotton has to be tight in the coil. Tighter than you’d think..
Less cotton in the Insider works best because the cotton ends need to be tucked down into the top level of the juice channels. I suppose you could have thick cotton in the coil and then trim the ends down but that is to much work for me and I am lazy..
Flavor:
In my opinion the Insider take the cake here but the Doggy and Exocet are not far behind. They all give great flavor but I find the Insider just excelled here, even if by a tiny margin. I’d give the Exocet 2nd place by a hair over the Doggy.
I won’t cover vapor production as they are all almost exactly the same and in my opinion, vapor production has more to do with the build, ohms and watts than they atty itself..
1. Insider
2. Exocet
3. Doggy
In the Exocet and the Doggy, more cotton is better as you need to cover the slats with enough cotton to prevent leaking. Again, everyone is different but these methods are what works for me.
How low can you go? (juice level in the tank)
I vaped the Insider dry at least twice before I noticed the tank was empty. The Doogy can get pretty low and the Exocet comes in last, but only by a hair.. If you want to vape down to bone dry then the Insider might be for you!
1. Insider
2. Doggy
3. Exocet
Mouth to lung vape:
This is my general vaping mode. I do however prefer direct lung hits every so often. For mouth to lung I found the Exocet using the Kayfun v5 MTL pin to be slightly better than the rest. Next is the Doggy when using the MTL kit that can be purchased separately. In last place I have the Insider. They are all pretty close for MTL so your mileage may vary.
1. Exocet (with Kayfun v5 1.6mm MTL pin)
2. Doggy (with MTL kit)
3. Insider
Direct lung hit:
This one is difficult for me as I only vape like this every so often and don’t have a rock solid feel for it. I did test all 3 of them setup and rocking for this vaping method. The Doggy and Exocet take the cake here which should be kind of obvious as the Insider uses a Kayfun like vape style.
1. Exocet
2. Doggy
3. Insider
Adjustable airflow options:
I mainly vape with restricted airflow but do on occasion prefer wide open airflow..
Airy: They all can be opened up pretty wide especially if you completely remove the airflow ring. I found them all to be fairly close here.. I'll give the edge to the Exocet with the Doggy and the Insider following close behind.
1. Exocet
2. Doggy
2. Insider
Restricted: All can be clamped down pretty tight with the use of their airflow adjustments. I found them all the be about equal so I’ll focus on the ease of the air adjustment. The Insider with its adjustment wheel easily takes 1st place here as it can be adjusted on the fly and without removing the tank. The Doggy and Exocet are next and are close but I’ll give 2nd place to the Doggy with the Exocet coming in last, The Doggy and Exocet are pretty much a tie though,
1. Insider
2. Doggy
3. Exocet
Leaks and condensation:
Billet Boxes will always get condensation inside the box and on the panel but some attys are worse than others. Some attys, no matter what, will also have seepage from the tank. The Insider was easily the worse of the bunch as far as seepage and condensation goes. The Doggy was next and the Exocet takes the cake..
1. Exocet
2. Doggy
3. Insider
Final decision and score:
I am only going to keep 2 of them and what I’ve decided is a bit odd and interesting to me. I absolutely love the Kayfun style vape and figured the Insider was a shoe in.. Nope.. I am keeping the Doggy and the Exocet..
I just find the Insider build to be a bit more finicky and the condensation and seepage levels were a bit higher with it as well.. All 3 are awesome atomizers and are all worthy of a spot in the BB..
1. Exocet (will be my main RBA) Score: 9/10
2. Doggy (will be my backup / extra RBA) Score: 9/10
3. Insider (will be sold) Score: 8/10
