Practice almost didnt happen tonight. It was raining, deluge style, on two ball fields over. OURS stayed dry somehow. It was actually pretty cool to see that! We now have a pitcher chosen with two more (my daughter included) as back ups. Also got our catcher lined up. She can make the throw from home to second base at chest level. We even found our power hitter. This girl has never played before. Didnt know you had to touch each base as you ran. But for one of our hitting drills, I put a nearly flat soccer ball on top of a tee and have them hit it into a fence. You make sure that they have the right mechanics behind the swing, and the flattened ball is to make sure they power through contact and continue to follow through. She hit the ball hard enough to consistantly have a flat ball rebound off the fence back past where the tee was by at least 15 feet. Ive never seen that kind of power in an 8 year old. She's also one of the fastest runners I have. Unfortunatley, she cant throw or catch worth a darn, but I think we can fix that.
