im gonna buy my 1st mech mod. and decided to get the don. but still confuse which one should i get. any body here that have experience with those two please give a suggestion :)

Not sure how easy it is to get the stainless steel one, but if I had a chose it would definitely be the SS one, SS= more durable and solid, more weight, Aluminum, lighter weight, easier to scratch and ding, it depends on what is important to you since there are trade offs for both imo.

The two places I've bought Dons from are electronicstix.com and mojo republic. Don't let the fact that moju is in England worry you though. Only took ten days total to receive mine.

Between the SS and the aluminum, I'd say go with the SS as well. It's probably three times heavier than the aluminum but it will take a massive whooping without a worry. I had an aluminum Don at first but it tarnished/oxidized at an amazingly fast rate. I ended up blasting it and coating it with Lauer Custom Dura Coat in satin/semi-gloss black. Made it impervious to corrosion and incredibly nice looking. The Duracoat is easy to apply and is a baked on finish. Worked well. I lent it to a friend who loves it so much that he talked me into selling it to him. Haven't seen it since. Eventually I'll pick up another and re-do it.

The aluminum is just so lightweight that it really is worth considering. On the other hand, Kreniker dropped his aluminum Don a short distance and almost destroyed it. I guess it depends on how careful you are and how important weight is. The SS Don is probably my heaviest mod.

As luck would have it....My old Don that I did in Duracoat showed up for a visit. I snapped a pic before I had a chance to forget again. Its been dropped a few times, and the finish seems to have held up really well. The current owner added an extention for a Kick module, also done in Duracoat. It's hard to see in the photo but it has a smooth as glass shiny finish which feels great in the hand. Eventually I'll grab another Don and do it up in Duracoat, probably a different color though, and probably in a matte finish.

I just used supplies I had left over from doing a FN PS90 and FS2000. They sell mini kits of a sort now though. Midwayusa.com and brownells.com are the easiest places to order them. You just mix it up, add the spray can attachment and paint. Once painted, you bake it and it's done. If you let it sit for about two weeks, it will be fully cured and really hard to damage/wear. I just ordered supplies direct from Lauer since I already have the HVLP sprayer and compressor.
