I wish we all could be sittin' around a table in a nice English pub, having this discussion in person, puffing away and having drinks and actually meeting fellow characters in person!

i once had the opportunity to do something like that janet.. being part of virtual community for nearly a year.. went to america to arrange a convention.. met for real a whole bunch of people i had been enjoying virtual time with.. none of them even vaguely resemble the image built up over the past year..

real people often aint the same as virtual people.. some shine their light better in one environment than the other.. he he he

my experience wasnt a bad one janet.. the community i was part of was a war game.. a bunch of middle aged men all turned into WW11 virtual fighter pilots..

people who had never played a computer game in their life got totally hooked on this thing.. it was partly helped cos microsoft called it a simulation.. i just called it a game..

the bottom line is some people became virtual heroes in this weird fighter plane flying gaming world.. i invented an idea that made groups of airplanes all fly and shoot the same.. it was called the "level playing field"... the airplanes i created were called trogfighters.. he he.. i called em dogfighters... but it got changed to trogfighters..

the people who wanted to play fun and equal games loved the idea.. the people who wanted to pretend it was real hated it.. i called em "gamers" and simmers".. he he he.. a bit like i call some e smokers swappers and stoppers..

where the real life meeting thing went a bit wrong thow was.. some felt their real life image woudnt live up to their virtual hero image.. and in many case it wont.. one guy who was called in the virtual world franz baron and considered a virtual fighter ace sticks in my mind.. he only lived a mile or two down the road from where the convention was held but try as hard as i could i couldnt get him to come.. i often wonder what the real reason was..

i also had to drive several hundred miles to meet another friend who was frightened he couldnt live up to the virtual image he had created..
