Sure, 'bury' a great GD (General Discussion) post that could reinforce our general membership's knowledge...

i was kind of wondering why they dont want ppl to see this here that need to see it, but maybe they have a method *shrugs* *dissapointment* i'll keep posting.

I doubt that's it. They're just doing forum housekeeping. There's a subforum for articles from the media, so she moved it there. If they left everything that was posted on here right where it was created, we'd probably have most everything in General Discussion and we'd never be able to find a thing. :)

After seeing this I went and wrote to Rachael Ray giving her some links to look at and expressed my real disappointment in her show over the matter. I think everyone should do the same.

Rachael Ray Show

I'd like to express my disappointment that they let Rachel on television AT ALL.... I'm a much better cook than her an don't even get me started on her personality and (life)style.

Great information in these. My only issue is the blatant endorsement of smoke stick. There is even a box in the background. It makes it appear he is being paid by the company, whether it's true or not. And not that being paid is a problem, if the company hired him to evaluate their product, it would be safe to assume they paid him for his time. The issue arises that the average person feels being paid is synonymous with being paid off or bought in this kind of situation.

IMO, this has to have been produced by SmokStik, which does diminish the impact.

Also, moving this to this forum will most likely keep it 'on the first page' longer than if it was left in General, where most likely it would have been easily visible for a lot shorter time - it would have been quickly 'buried' on page 2, 3, ...

Dag nab it, I agree! They at least should know to take the money under the table; even the people occupying our government know that. geez.

Lots of very good information in these videos from a medical professional, but there are a few things with which I take issue.

First, the Dr. seems to think that there is an inherent danger to all smokeless tobacco products, but studies in Sweden with regard to the use of Snus don't seem to support that position. Each smokeless tobacco product seems to have it's own profile when it comes to the harm related to the use of that product. Using the generalization of harm from smokeless tobacco use the way he did shows a bit of ignorance, or he at least did not express himself very well otherwise.

Second, why even bring up 3rd hand smoke in the conversation? Anyone remotely capable of critical thinking knows that this topic is purely an ANTZ war cry and doesn't really have any relevance in the discussion of harm from smoking. Unless you live in an area that is completely devoid of automobile traffic and industrial factories (way out in the country), the added exposure to smoke related particles absorbed fabrics and other materials poses no real additional threat to your health. Even if you are lucky enough to live on a horse ranch with clean air and water somewhere in the mid-west, just give it a few years and some fossil fuel energy company will be sure to change that for you. Then you won't be so worried about 3rd hand tobacco residue any longer.

Finally, as others have said, these videos were framed in a manner in which they are an advert for the Smoke Stick brand, and I would have much rather seen a medical professional create more of a public service type message. With that said, any bits of truth that we can get from the medical community of the harm reduction of commercial nicotine products is a good thing, so this is just a minor annoyance.

One of the things I really liked in the videos was his position on how parents should approach their children with regard to the use of e-cigs. This hit home with me because it's exactly the way I explained it to my nieces and they were very supportive of my decision to make a positive change in my lifestyle. Even at the ages of 6 and 7, they understood the health issues of smoking and quickly grasped the concept of harm reduction via vaping. There were other important points he brought up in the videos as well, but this one was my favorite.

Using the generalization of harm from smokeless tobacco use the way he did shows a bit of ignorance, or he at least did not express himself very well otherwise.

At the end of the second video he clearly states that e-cigs are a healthier alternative to smokeless tobacco use, which is of course a lie. It shows a fundamental mistaken idea of what tobacco harm reduction is and what causes disease. All forms of modern smokeless tobacco sold in the US are dramatically less harmful then smoking. If there are differences in risk from US type smokeless and Swedish smokeless it is very minor, if it exist at all, and that is very much in doubt. He doesn't show a bit of ignorance, he shows a lot of ignorance when it comes to ST. He can get away with it because of the decades of brainwashing on the dangers of ST.

Besides that this is an old video from 2009. It is nothing more then an advertising. The doctor is all to willing to throw smokeless tobacco users under the bus and push terribly bad information on third hand smoke to promote his e-cig brand. This not an education video as there is to much bad information in it to qualify for that, it's an unashamed paid advertising.
