It depends. But you already know this and me saying it of course doesn't help you a tick. So I'll give you my take on things wick-wise, but keep in mind it can be a bit like discussing one's tennis swing post hoc. That is: at best it's only folk science and at worst it's just plain stories.

If you've got a fat coil and thus a commensurately fat wick, it helps to divert some of that wick end down the channels, if only just to relieve some internal pressure and make a little room at the arches for the whole juice-air handshake thing. But wick-in-coil tightness is usually the primary suspect for the crime of dry-hittedness.

And so as long as the wick ain't too loose or too tight in the coil, I have found that for thicker juices, say 70vg and higher, I need bigger coils (+3mm) with bigger wicks that are nicely fluffed out atop the arches with only a small/short tuft entering the channels. And I need to remove the "wick ring" bubbler auto-turbulator thing in order to gain a few extra micrometers of juice entryway to help the sludgy stuff find its way into the bottom of the channels.
Got it! Need to put a new coil on anyway so will giv it a go!!
Thanks! I think i know where i was going wrong now.

Woot! Woot! After about 20 tries (actually, 4, but it seemed like 20), I got it! No flooding - knock wood - and no dry hits :). My thanks to Newportlocal for your help and many posts on the NT thread, and to Qorax for both your amazing photos and your enthusiasm for Mlle Erlk.

Without further ado, je vous presente l'Erl de Tweety!

Looking good as usual Q!!! May have to buy a bottle on my next order!!

Also do you find much difference having the coil closer to the air hole? As i have only put 2 builds on I'm guaging where to put the coil for good throat hit.
Also this build is 1.3ohms and it doesn't get as hot as my previous 1ohm build.

Have to say, was sceptical about the looks about the erlk in pics...now i have it in my hands, i think it really does look nice. Like the find and the way you can see the chimney etc. It really does look good. Well my nano does anyway.

Where my Coil sits:

1) Wrap the 'wire' (Kanthal, Nichrome, Nickel etc.) over a 'rod' (drill bit, screwdriver, nail, toothpick etc.),
2) Place that 'rod' horizontally between the two bending slots of the vertical juice channels,
3) Trap the coil 'legs' onto the terminal posts (+ve & -ve) and trim the excess.

Here is where I leave my coils finally positioned in the Erlk/ErlP.

For a higher TH you may 'lift' the coil up a bit from that position (#2 above), after attaching its legs (#3) using that same rod. But not too high, b'coz higher the coil gets from the base's airhole - you'd've lower vapor. And as you go higher it'd mess up the 'taste' as well. Besides, too high could short it out with the chamber's top.

Stupid question: can you coil an erlk/P upside down? I mean instead of the legs coming out from the lower part of the coil, they come from the top part. The legs would be a little longer that way but is it possible? I've seen it several times on kayfun builds and I wonder...?

I know I did it once or twice early on didn't seem to matter. As you said might change the resistance slightly with the lead length, but was negligible. Just less convenient for wrapping around the screws.

... But more convenient to make the coil on a right hand screw to have it perfectly spaced :)

I have to try it out :)

Istick 30w Erlk

Cleaned, coiled and rewicked. About 120ml through unit now.
Went with 28g, 2.4mm, 9 wraps, 1.6 ohms, JOC.
1.6 vs 1.8 ohms = a tad faster/warmer coil.
Still amazed at how long a wick lasts.
Been rewicking at around 20ml - wick still looks good, coil just needs a dry burn.
A few tiny black 'feckels' on inside of dome from coil gunk.

Replaced the washers on the fill ports.
No problems, they are just a bit worn.
Not loosing the drip tip enough before twisting the top cap causes excessive wear/rubbing on the orings.
I plan to pay closer attention to this on future refills.
And the delrin drip tip can often be difficult to loosen - so slippery!
I'm sure to always have a rubber band handy for 'gription' ha.

I haven't had the best of luck twisting off the base/deck with a full tank like I did early on.
The top wants to loosen more often now than the deck.
Guess it's not that big a deal as I really only need to access the deck to rewick,
now that I've gotten comfortable with everything.
The Kayfun V4 ease of deck access is nice though.

I've considered a possible customization to address this.
As well as the often hard to loosen delrin drip tip.

It would entail drilling a small hole through the drip tip near the base,
threading a thumb screw, and scoring a small groove in chimney top.
Something like this:

True, i see your point. Im still getting to grips with it at the moment you see figuring out where the best place to put the coil is. This new coil is slightly higher than my first and you can notice lack of flavour....

I have successfully learnt how to rewick etc with a full tank....its actually not that hard you know. K4 is easy but so is this. Takes me as much time to take the tank off as it takes me to take the k4 one off..

(Rant warning)
So, my wife had bought me an Erlthron deluxe and some accessories as an early birthday present. It isn't working properly and have sent two emails(see below)at this point with no response. There has been a full business day on their end to respond, and my second email was before the close of their business day in their time zone today and now it will be the weekend with no resolution. The first email was the day before. I know of another regular on this thread with similar issues who had also not received any response to multiple emails over a prolonged period of time both to the Erlkoenigin support email address and to individuals working there putting him past the 14 days for a refund. Until they are willing to fix this issue and improve their quality control I would think twice before buying and Erlthron. At this point with shipping times I am running out of time, and have to debate between shipping it back at my expense or having an expensive paper weight. I would certainly prefer they just make it right. This is the first time I have thought about making a you tube video on the Erlthron with the issues and doing a Reddit post. I don't want to be put in a position to be the squeaky wheel. I feel that they need to greatly improve their customer service response before they greatly effect their fan base. Many on this thread have sent emails for issues or just with general questions for purchases to no response. Still think the Erlkoenigin tank I bought was a great purchase, but my current experience is less than royal after spending hundreds.

Subject line: Erlthron firing issues
I recently did an order under my wife's name. It was order number 301150 for (redacted)
The Erlthron is not firing correctly. It fired very well at one particular spot and fires at a lesser vape quality at some other spots. Some spots it won't even fire. This is with adequate pressure on the ring. I need to get a properly firing ring portion of the Erlthron replacement. I already have had a few private message conversations with Qorax on ECF and it appears he didn't have any good ideas for my issue. I didn't want to post any negative feedback on ECF about it. Also, my address was improperly done on my DHL shipment as (redacted)This resulted in me having to drive to a DHL hub and pick it up in person. Please use my street with it as I had entered. It should be(redacted)It must just be different formatting for addresses in Europe. I know Todd seems to be enjoying his Erlthron and so perhaps something is just wrong with the firing mechanism. I am an Erlkoenigin fan and have Erlkoenigin 1253 and have promoted Erlkoenigin heavily on the forums as Newportlocal on ECF. I currently want to order a nano Erlkoenigin kit and Erlthron Nano, but I need to make sure that they are working properly before buying another one. Thank you for your attention to this issue.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Jensen Jr.

Subject line: trying to avoid a refund
I sent an email yesterday. At this point you are getting close to the end of your business day with no response. With the shipping times involved to the United States and back to you. It is getting close to your 14 day time frame for refund. I would prefer a working switch as the one on my Erlthron Deluxe is not firing properly. Please respond to my previous email detailing the issue.
Sincerely,
Richard Jensen

^I've drawn the attention of Edi (the designer of Erl gears) to this post.

Greatly appreciate that Q! Don't want to be "that guy" and want to continue my fandom of their products. Perhaps testing them before sending them out, and a little more attentiveness to their contact Erlkoenigin email account will go a long way. Thanks For your help.
