I don't think the day that the dilution from pure nic to the diluted value, say 100mg/ml in VG, is as important as the age of the pure nicotine that nic suppliers in the US gets in pure form 1000mg/ml or extremely close to that. The 55gal drum could have been stored for a much longer period of time. Just like our diluted nic suppliers like Nude Nic or whoever offers sales and discounts for larger volumes to us, so do manufacturers in India to suppliers we buy from. I would expect at a certain volume discount level places like Nude Nic would purchase enough in one order to last quite a while to reduce costs of both the product and shipping.

It also doesn't address whether the drum of pure, likely from India but China is a big supplier too, is as clear as it could be, even though it test for the correct strength. There could be variations from order to order.

I've always felt that smell was a better indicator of if a nicotine order was going to work well for my mixing than clarity... just as an informal assessment of whether I want to use it or not knowing that my juice is going to have an odd flavor if the nic smell is strong. I really wouldn't worry about a slight tint in color if it smelled clean enough, unless you received the product clean and it has oxidized while you stored it. Especially if the smell got worse. BTW, I wouldn't recommend sticking your beak up to the bottle and taking a good huff on it, might be better to just smell the cap at a small distance from you.

I'm not aware of any dangers of oxidized nic, but the smell and reduced nic strength would likely keep me from using it. Maybe @Rossum has additional information on using oxidized nic and health concerns.

No, not really. I'm just not very keen on the smell and taste of oxidized nic, and I've found a strong correlation between than and discoloration.

This is true, of course. An then the question beccomes: How was the raw/pure nic stored? I know how I would do it if I were a maker of nic base. I'd keep it very cold, and I'd dispense it by using a two-tap system; a pick-up tap at the bottom of the drum and a tap at the top to add inert gas such as argon to the top. I'm pretty confident if you keep it cold and do not allow contact with oxygen, pure nic will stay good for a very long time. FWIW, dispensing it cold is not a problem because pure nic doesn't thicken up at freezer temperatures like VG (or to a lesser degree) PG does.

I expect some vendors do this better than others.

Actually already been though this discussion before - NO I do not and it is not an option. I live in senior housing - they only provide a cheap small refrigerator. Also they will not allow any tenant to purchase a larger one / or freezer (it just so happens they are in the process of evicting a tenant unless they get rid of the small freezer they have). Matter of fact, @Rossum was so kin and generous to offer to let me store some in his freezer, however he is 4 hour drive away.

Anyway - I am more concerned about decanting each an every bottle to check the NIC. Will it not be effected (oxidation even if close tightly)? ? ? NEXT Suggestion ? ? ? ;)

.
I'm sure we might be able to find somebody who lives closer to you in this group to help you with storage. If you're near Houston I'll share some freezer space with you.

Really nice and a GREAT option . . . I probably could hide that in the closet without a problem . . . Well - Unless when they do a 3 month "spot" Maintenance inspection and notice the cord running into the closet and ask WHY - I'll just say it is for "My" late night snacks when I can't get out of bed and hope that works (hey it's a picnic cooler - not a Freezer, one that I could use too when a Hurricane hits ;) ) . . .   . . . Anyway, GREAT Find, I think I will get one as soon as it hopefully goes on sale (already spent more money that I reallly didn't have on NIC & "Stuff" . . . ) . . . THANK YOU ! ! ! :D

.
I have a list on Amazon for items I might buy for camping or off grid use,,, $62 +$20 ac cord https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NHBYOA...olid=2U993AIAO767E&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Uncle is in southern Florida, like 4 hours (or maybe a bit more) south of my current location.

Just unplug the cord when you leave the apt and stick it in the cooler. Put your laundry basket on top. Certainly it’s not illegal to have a cooler??? Unplugged it should stay cold for a while

He could even put some meds inside on top of the nic. Lots of meds need to stay cool.

Pure genius. I bet they an even not put the "frozen med" either "for your privacy" just that you need it. Dude. That is smart.

Annna
Doesnt even have to be a med. Need an ice pack for you knee? Need a big one for your back?

I have a confession to make . I have been a lazy, lazy gal. In my freezer digging, I discovered I have 4 litres of 100mg still in the plastic bottles they came in, in their nifty plastic bags. So instead of shinies next Friday, I will be ordering a big, ol pile of glass bottles and another airtight bin to put them in. <sigh>. I thought it was only two. Ugh.

@Rossum , any thoughts on premix base (6 or 12mg) staying in the freezer in its plastic jugs? I *think* they’re recycle 2s.

I dug out a turkey to cook tomorrow.LOL

We actually this time of year don't have much besides my nic in the freezer. Being the end of hurricane season most everything has been canned to make it shelf stable for possible power outages. We are far enough North in the state that hurricanes do hit us but usually by the time they get here they are a lot of water and power outages more than anything else.

In a month or so we will do a run to the big city to restock.

I know what you mean by hurricane risk, Ike took our home in 2008,. We were 5 houses from the water,,, now we are about 1 mile from the water.

We have a divided freezer,, plenty of meats etc in the other areas,, i went to inspect my nic,, but had to unbury it first. My husband has interesting habits when it comes to packaging,,, interesting habits in life in general!

I’m out of anything big, that got used up over the summer for family vacations/get togethers. I am also out of fish :(. The spillway opening totally messed up getting refilled. I have a commercial deep freezer, two refrigerator/freezers and a generator. I can live without a LOT of stuff, air conditioning isn’t one of them. And, I’m a tad bit partial to hot showers and my coffee maker. We were without power for almost 4 weeks once when a tropical storm knocked the power pole with transformer into a neighbors pool. I stock cases of water, then come November it goes to the camp. I need to get back to canning. Got out of the habit once we got the generator, but nothing tastes better than veggies from the garden you put up yourself!

I think all men do lol. I’m constantly grabbing vacuum packed stuff from Himself to mark a date and what it is.
