I don't think the day that the dilution from pure nic to the diluted value, say 100mg/ml in VG, is as important as the age of the pure nicotine that nic suppliers in the US gets in pure form 1000mg/ml or extremely close to that. The 55gal drum could have been stored for a much longer period of time. Just like our diluted nic suppliers like Nude Nic or whoever offers sales and discounts for larger volumes to us, so do manufacturers in India to suppliers we buy from. I would expect at a certain volume discount level places like Nude Nic would purchase enough in one order to last quite a while to reduce costs of both the product and shipping.
It also doesn't address whether the drum of pure, likely from India but China is a big supplier too, is as clear as it could be, even though it test for the correct strength. There could be variations from order to order.
I've always felt that smell was a better indicator of if a nicotine order was going to work well for my mixing than clarity... just as an informal assessment of whether I want to use it or not knowing that my juice is going to have an odd flavor if the nic smell is strong. I really wouldn't worry about a slight tint in color if it smelled clean enough, unless you received the product clean and it has oxidized while you stored it. Especially if the smell got worse. BTW, I wouldn't recommend sticking your beak up to the bottle and taking a good huff on it, might be better to just smell the cap at a small distance from you.
I'm not aware of any dangers of oxidized nic, but the smell and reduced nic strength would likely keep me from using it. Maybe @Rossum has additional information on using oxidized nic and health concerns.
