I spent three hours a few days ago working with their analysts on their EU e-cigarette market report.

When looking at Mr Hedley's discussion of the reasons the tobacco industry has not invested in ecigs until recently, I get the feeling that perhaps they do not appreciate the importance that patent issues and regulatory issues have for the industry. As far as the EU is concerned, it's still all to play for. The tobacco industry will not invest heavily under those circumstances.

No one knows how the patent issues will turn out; and the EU could ban ecigs at any time.

Apparently a few years ago Phillip Morris was in discussions with Ruyan (now Dragonite) regarding purchasing them.
And apparently those talks fell through.

Fast forward a couple of years, and Blu reaches a licensing agreement with Dragonite.
And then Lorillard buys Blu, the timing of which seems to indicate the licensing agreement was a huge factor.

I doubt that Dragonite will offer licenses to their patent as cheaply in the future as whatever Blu was able to negotiate.
And I also wonder if Phillip Morris has re-initiated those discussions with Dragonite.

Just saying....

Future of e-cigs (on the commercial side)

The future for e-cigarettes is in store purchases and not on-line sales.
Buying on-line will be primarily for the hobbyist.

I seldom watch Mini e-cig YouTubes, but this one caught my eye.
Excellent presentation of a slick product line that I can image in
most stores in the future (if this name brand survives) ... If not,
it will be similar under a different names IE Blu.

Not offering this video to compare with the advantages of MODs
or any other e-cigs on steroids or for that matter to compare with
refills. Just a killer peak into the future of what to expect to see
in stores ... Everywhere !!!!

Slick product line and demo ... products like this will be available
in stores everywhere. Out of smokes?? Go to the store ... Same
as when we smoked. Not for most of us here ... but for the "mainstream"

If e-cigs are only about 20% where they should be ... I would just love
to see the devices of the future.

In response to my inquiry several years ago, executives at Ruyan (now Dragonite) told me that they weren't aware of the company discussing selling the company (or its patents) to PM, but they were aware of several news reports out of Asia (which may have been planted to promote the company's stock value).

A horse is a horse of course, of course,,,,,,,unless it's an Arabian. I personally prefer a cherry to be called one and I don't think naming it something else will satisfy the prohibitionists.

Cute packaging for converting smokers to vapers though. Now if they can stop the price rape- $59 for two mini-batteries and a bit of liquid and a USB charger plus $17 for seven throw away cartos seems a bit on the expensive side. However that's why they hire marketing people and the target market is current smokers.
