Here is a thread I subscribed to that has videos of microcoil building. It may explain stuff better than a bunch of techie posters. I have only watched a couple of them but that is my next project for the Russian 91% I am getting in May. Have to learn how to build those little coils.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/472178-micro-coil-videos.html

I picked up one of these Artistic Wire Gizmo coil winding thingys at Hobby Lobby last week. From the video it looks like this is a way for me to build a coil. Have not tried it yet.

Cool! super_x told me to get 28g and 30g wire to start with on my RM2, so I guess he was giving me room for error.

I have one, but don't use it. Only one rod is included within the right size range to make coils with, about 1/16". It's easier for me to wrap feehand on several sizes of forms I found around the house like I always have (drill bits, blunt tip needles, etc). Some vendors now also sell various size rods for coil wrapping. On my list is to make a custom wrapping jig with interchangeable forms on of these days.

I am real new at this but the 28ga and 30ga wire sizes will make a difference in the resistance of the coils you build and how many wraps you need to get the resistance you want. Also will play into what you may need to use to get a coil of the right resistance that will fit in your atty. Lots of variables and I don't understand it all yet. Not even close at this point.

I am trying to talk my better half into finding me some rods in different sizes so I can use them on the Gizmo. I tried wrapping coils using drill bits, small screwdrivers and some other thing a guy had at a vape meet. They all were a dismal failure for me. I have enough arthritis and lack of coordination in my hands that the free hand stuff is too hard for me. Hoping this Gizmo will be the answer.

I am wondering where I could find different size rods to adapt to the Gizmo. Any ideas? I am going to be a coil winding machine by May if it kills me.

Have you seen the little jig DarkZero made? Here is a link. It is a more hands on manual way to do it but a lot of people like it. Pic of jig is post #5.

Here is another thread of a jig another ECF member built. A few variations from other members too.

If you come up with something simple, easy and inexpensive I bet you could sell them. Everybody is building coils these days. Heck I am an old lady and I am going to build coils. Just need to get the hands to work and the eyes to see. lol

I knew it was big, but hey, Beiber paid pay extra, to have a bigger microstick.
 LOL.
He was overcompensating for something... "Microstick? Gimmie that Innokin VTR instead, it's bigger!"
I'll bet he does have a Microstick, you just can't see it in the picture...
Lol.

I think you have to buy a Gizmo with the rods, though.

Edit: I would just look for different sized coat hangers to make into winders and find someone (if I had arthritis) to do the cutting and bending for me. Local Hardware stores might be an option too (for the wire).

Are you going to bend the rod to make it like the one that comes with the Gizmo? Stainless steel Tig wire would work. It's hard enough to stay rigid. I have a different kind of winder similar to the Professional Coiling Gizmo so I use transfer punches. But they aren't meant to be bent. How long is the rod? If you only need 12" or less, glass flameworkers use them and you might be able to get a variety pack with different thickness.

That is what I already have. The only suitable rod is the smallest one that is 1/16" approximately. I was wondering about getting different diameter rods to work on the Gizmo I have.

I have just started reading the microcoil thread and see that I have way lots to learn. A friend sent me an Igo-L and she built me a nice 2.2ohm coil. So far I have been rewicking it with cotton from a cotton ball and I am still trying to get the amount of cotton just right. I am either putting too much or too little in. I am getting closer. I hear that once you figure out the right amount to use it becomes second nature.

Yes, making different size rods to use in the Gizmo, like the drill bit diameter sizes. The Gizmo rods, all but the one, are too large for coils. I may be barking up the wrong tree but it should be doable. I don't think I need to bend them, I could just somehow clamp the piece of wire onto it. It is so I have an easy way to turn the rod to make the coil.

I have no idea what transfer punches are and where I would get them. All I have around me is Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Hobby Lobby and Michaels. Which one of them might I find transfer rods at. I really have to go out and look around at these places.

I think this is the same one in it's box. Check out the comments - not only did one reviewer list the size of the rods, but there are lots of vapers who posted!

If it were me, I would take the smallest rod to Home Depot and wander around for inspiration. Where I used to live there was a small hardware store that I used to go to for "art supplies." The guys used to follow me and ask me what I was looking for, since I wasn't ever in one section for very long. No matter what I picked up they would ask me what I planned to use it for, then say it wasn't designed for that. Oh yeah? Just watch me.

They don't follow me in Home Depot, but if they ask me what I'm looking for it usually freaks them out.

"What kind of saw do you need?"
"I want one to cut ceramic."
"What kind of ceramic? Tiles?"
"I want to cut a doll's head in half."
"....."
"Do you carry foam rubber?"

I would greatly enjoy going shopping with you.

You should have seen the 2 guys working for Home Depot when I asked them if they carried Noalox. Blank stares, even from the one working in the electrical department. I found it on my own from the descriptions I read here on where to look for it.

I am thinking Home Depot or Lowes will have much of what I might find in Hobby Lobby or Michael at a much better price point. Already tried my local Walmart. It was worthless. Although they did have one screwdriver set. And a couple of drill bits.

I would have tried the sewing section. I'm thinking upholstery needles and micro crochet hooks.
