32 awg Kanthal A-1 + nextel 116= perfect !
Very happy with the 32 awg kanthal a-1, trying to find some 30 or 28 also. Plenty of kanthal D in those sizes, but no A-1.
I keep trying to tell everyone that kanthal a-1 is where it's at. I work next door to a Sanvik factory where kanthal is made so I got the skinny on what the properties were for the various grades.
Nothing outlasts kanthal a-1 alloy for our heater coils because of it's specific properties. The alloy was originally designed for industrial/medical heating elements and so it needed to stand up to ALOT of abuse before failure even when glowing hot. This is why it performs so well and lasts so long in our coils.
I have one Genisis with a coil that is 4 months old. I dry burn it every week till the gunk turns to ash then dip it in water while still hot to shock the crust off. Talk about taking abuse with a smile, lol
