Hello lurkers, delurking here.:)

I can not deny that I have a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach right now concerning Irma.
I'm only 20 minutes by car away from Classy...so need to turn of worry wart mode and just continue prepping.
I wish that sucker would just turn north in to the Atlantic but that is not going to happen.:(
Hi Splat!! :)
My thoughts and prayers are with you all!!! :nun:

Do you have cams outside?if not I know I would have to drill a few small peep holes here and there so I could look outside :2c:

We have an awesome security system. Cameras all over so we have no blind spots. Hubby gets the feed on his cell phone too. :)

Try not to worry and just concentrate on securing everything that needs it. We have plans in place for all our outdoor stuff. Car will be moved to maximize space in the garage for the patio furniture. Large plants will go up against a wall that will protect them from the wind. Which wall depends on where the storm comes in from.

I'm kind of glad that we didn't get the outdoor dining set yet!

I admit that Irma has me on edge a bit too...I'm going over my hurricane prep and possible evacuation plans, just in case...no matter where she goes, it's going to be bad for someone...right now my thoughts and prayers are with all those in her path. :nun:

I've emailed my nephew who's in Alaska, but lives on Chokoloskee Island. Trying to make sure he has someone who is going to get his SUV and boat to a secure place.
I think he has that all covered, just wanting to make sure.

Glad to hear that! No telling how it will all fall out.
I really fear for the Caribbean Island nations. :(

We even have planned to have MIL's car up against the side of the house that won't be in the wind path. Again, depending on where it lands is what we will base which side of the house the car will sit.
Will you be able to get her to come to your house??

Sounds like that might be the plan :)

Then there is new news and it ain't good :(:nun:

    DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
    ------------------------------
At 200 PM AST (1800 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Irma was located near
latitude 16.9 North, longitude 59.1 West. Irma is moving toward the
west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and this general motion is expected to
continue today, followed by a turn toward the west-northwest
tonight. On the forecast track, the extremely dangerous core of Irma
is forecast to move over portions of the northern Leeward Islands
    tonight and early Wednesday.

Reports from an Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that
the maximum sustained winds have increased to near 185 mph (295
km/h) with higher gusts. Irma is an extremely dangerous category
5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some
fluctuations in intensity are likely during the next day or two, but
Irma is forecast to remain a powerful category 4 or 5 hurricane
during the next couple of days.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from
the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160
    miles (260 km).

Oh yes, she knows she doesn't have a choice in the matter  We managed to get her to our house when Matthew came through. Only one night and she was ready to go home LOL.

Afternoon, everyone. I just can't express enough my concerns for all in the path of yet another massive storm. It's going to be years to fully recover from Harvey, and now possibly a replay for Florida, not to mention all the island countries before it gets here. I am praying for all, and for those near to us, Robin, Classy and all of our other Floridians here. Add to that, the devastating fires in the northwest. It's definitely been a very trying time for this country. God help us all.

Was talking to a couple of "first responders" the other day and they're all hoping it takes the same track as Harvey. Their reasoning is it can't destroy what's already been destroyed, and as the recovery assets are already in place, it'll be less strain than if Irma wipes out a new area. Gotta admit, there's some logic behind that as callous as it seems.
Might actually save some people money on demolition.

And make them more in return from their insurance.

"It's all gone" is harder for the insurance to haggle over than itemizing everything.

Plus some of that area is still evacuated, so it could displace less people that way.
