Well, as most of you know Issac got a bunch of the mini tanks in that weren't up to his standards, the caps fit to tightly to come off and on easily. He's shipped them to me and after a lot of sore fingers and whiskey they were disassembled. I tried the quick fix of backing the polycarbonite tanks and pressing in the caps to stretch them, this just made them brittle and would crack or shatter with minimal effort, FAIL!
I spent some time at the machine shop today to try and turn the caps themselves to fit into the tanks. Again, I'm not happy with the results, and if I'm not happy, I'll assure you, Issac wont be happy with the results! I managed to get one turned to establish the material, the consensus is they are 11 series aluminum, really soft, and I wasn't unhappy with the finish I got turning it, until the chrome plating started flaking off the bottom of the cap! This is unacceptable. I also ran into a problem with the concentricity of them, meaning trying to just take off .003" is going to be rather difficult! My first attempt wasn't good, the owner of the shop and I think we have a way to do it, but it's not an easy task.
So now I'm going to call and see what the cost of getting polycarbonite in the correct size will cost, probably prohibitive, but it's just a phone call to find out!
I'll update as I figure more out.
