Thanks for the reply Dan.

It takes about 1 minute to put new cotton on the ss mesh....about the same time it would take you to torch the ceramic.

Following this tread a bit.... it seems that you can't do the drill bit method with the ceramic wick...and I am making an assumption here...you probably have to torch the ceramic every few days....which means you would have to redo the coil every few days. So how many ml of liquid can you go through before having to redo the set up?

My last wick lasted 30 days before I fired it. It was still working, just looked cruddy so I fired it :)
I went through 12 3ml tanks.

woot....woot.....The local pet smart was fully stocked

Picked up a 6" tube.....now the clock goes tic-toc tic-toc till quitting time

Just got the last two at our local petsmart. I get the 6" and cut them in half. Gives me 2 3" pieces to play with.
Approx 20 wicks.

Dan,
Got me some air stone....Any thoughts/recommendations for outer and inner dims for a tube wick?

Trying to think how a larger diameter wick/coil will change vapor production. But I guess there is only one real way to find out.

I was thinking of a different setup, a 1/4" square wick with a 1/8" horizontal hole that lines up with the air hole on the cap :)
Coil goes inside and has direct air flow through the center across the coil. Should work awesome in theory.

I was trying to come up with a way to bring air up through the tube and get it directed back down towards the coil in my concept but I couldn't come up with a clean way....yet

Which one at Pet Smarts did they say was similar/like the Top Fin?

I told them exactly what I was looking for including the brand name and the girl went over and put her hands right on them and said "yup, they have them and they are kinda dark grey color made by Top Fin."
I'll know for sure in a few hours but I trust her cause she sounded pretty cute. :D

LOL I am. :D

Dan - Have you tried making the top coil area large in diameter sorta like Bail804 did in his pic below? I'm thinking a "Fat Top Wick" but even larger than what bail made would act as a large reservoir and hold more juice for those chain vape moments. Your thoughts?

Good concept only problem is the juice leaching through the ceramic and pooling in the air hole.

Here is what I was talking about :)

Coil in the hole, hole is lined up with the air hole on cap = direct draw.

Have not tried it yet, but I wonder how big of an area you can go without running into increased heatup times.

OH... ok thats about 5 days of use for me. Thats not too bad....it is definitely better than the hybrid wick which really gunks up after about three days. But the one advantage that the hybrid wick has... you can set it up with drill bit method and you can easily slide out the wick every couple of days...roll it in a paper towel to remove all the gunk... glow your coil for one second and slide the wick back in. In less than a minute you have a basically a brand new set up.

Thanks for answering all my questions. I'll definitely try the ceramic wick out when it is mass produced...but as of right now it doesn't seem like it will be more convenient for me. Especially with the added fact that I am super clumsy and these things are fragile.

Just one observation....silica dust is very carcinogenic when inhaled...it is like asbestos dust. Even though the final product will probably be safe...I don't think it is a good idea for people to make their own and have all that dust in their garage and all over their work bench. So be careful Dan and everyone.
