I'm thinking a "Fat Top Wick" but even larger than what bail made would act as a large reservoir and hold more juice for those chain vape moments.

My DID clone is still on the way, but from my experiences on other devices, large diameter wicks are slow to heat up, and will make the vape quite lame. I have experimented on Phoenix RDAs, Vivi Nova Mini and Kanger T2. Seems that 3mm is already too large for those, requiring a whole lot more power to get even a mediocre vape. A tight solid pole of SS mesh is ofcourse even worse than silica/cotton. But a DID does work a bit differently, so I don't know if it might be worth a shot.

Oh and BTW I did this wick on my bench grinder to see if it could be done. Looks good to me. And was easier than the cut off wheel. Still need that for slicing the blanks off to shape.

Gotta watch that middle finger on the grinding wheel. lol Got a stone today. Looks promising.

How did you get the plastic ends off without destroying the stone?

Edit: FWIW. This stuff cuts and shapes like butter on hot cornbread when wet.

Diamond wheel to cut the ends off.
And your correct, I have been soaking these in water prior to cutting. No dust and cuts easier.

Dan,
Got me some air stone....Any thoughts/recommendations for outer and inner dims for a tube wick?

Trying to think how a larger diameter wick/coil will change vapor production. But I guess there is only one real way to find out.
Why not wrap the whole thing the way it is or put the coil in da ole. Ya know, Go big or go home. LOL

I don't mind Chinese products as long as it is high quality and the company does not have a high suicide rate. Check the company out that makes Apple products in China. Sad to say the least.

If you want low suicide rates, buy from Foxconn INSTEAD of USA. That's the power of media, people can easily be made painting the wrong picture.

"ABC News[66] and The Economist[67] both reported in 2010 that the suicide rate of Foxconn employees is lower than the overall suicide rate in China."
Foxconn suicide rate in the worst year of 2010: 1.14 per 100 000:

US suicide mortality 12 per 100 000:

Sorry about the OT.

I just used pliers and pulled them off. The plastic caps only go so far into the center tube. I just torched the ends a lot more once shaped because of the glue possibility.

I'll definitely be using some water to make my second one.

As an FYI, and to those using the AGA attys, the small length tube will fit perfectly without having to trim, and it's a bit less expensive. So if that's all they have, grab it.

someone asked about using regular tools to cut the air stone....just for fun i tried the good old hack saw and it cut it like butter the first cut....but by the time i cut my 6" piece in half and the ends off it was dull.

So yes it will work, but kind of pita

You do get better vape production with coil inside than you do a wrap around. Your set up is different than mine and it would be nice if you were able to completely encase the coil with an air access. By splitting the upper portion some way. That way you can save on coil replacement and just dry burn.

Also, if the leads to the coil are some what imbedded in the stone then you could safely wrap the stone with filler to aid in liquid absorption, without the filler burning. The caveat to added filler in your set up, is that it may get to much liquid in the upper chamber.

Before I cut and shape my wick, a thought crossed my mind. We can have either a thicker piece above the wick hole, where the coil is applied OR we could have a thicker section inside the tank, if the wick is inserted through the wick hole from beneath the hole. My thinking is, would it provide better wicking to the coil section if the part below the wick hole was much thicker? Just a thought .......
