Hey rd, I'm in the middle of my first custom build. Wow, what an education!
Got everything in the case, even the water cooler hooked up, but haven't had the courage to plug it in until someone with much more experience checks my motherboard and power supply connections. Plus I have a bunch more reading to do on the Gigabyte Z97 1150 motherboard configurations before I even think about installing both Win7 and Ubuntu, as all Linux is foreign to me.
Gigabyte makes some really nice motherboards... My vendor currently carries 25 of them with the Z97 chipset using a 1150 socket on it... So when you're braggin' ( and you should be )... give out the model number... ie the GA-XXXXX-XXXX one...
I do like Linux OS's... I just don't use them other than for web server applications. I should find a spare hard drive and install the latest Ubuntu just to see what they are up to these days but I find I'm less driven to play around as I once was. I just want to get-r-done and I can do that well enough with Windows ( whatever version, currently I'm on 8.1 ).
Are you installing Ubuntu for a reason, such as wanting to run a specific app or something? .... Whether for play or production ( so to speak ), I suspect you'll like messing with it some, it's a good OS also.
