Yes you can use the SS430 in place of Kanthal & Nichrome. It will work in regular VW mode as well as TC mode.Just to clarify, I think I missed the reference to this, but would this be in place of kanthal or nichrome? how does the resistance compare?
I was just wondering about stainless steel for use in coil builds.
The resistance of SS430 is 0.008 ohms/mm and Kanthal is 0.018 ohms/mm. A 1 ohm coil of 28g on 3mm would require 10 wraps of SS430 and 5 on Kanthal.
The stainless steel wire can be dry burned and used in contact coils.
This is all from what I am reading and not first hand experience, I am looking to pick up a roll of SS430 myself. I am speculating that it will make all my other wire obsolete... If your device does not have a TCR adjustment for Stainless Steel the you will have to play with the temperature settings to find a proper setting using it in that mode.
