I bought the Phoenix XL 3.0ml Bottom Feed tank, thinking that there would be replacement "cartomizers" available. I ordered some replacement Phoenix Cartomizers only to find out that they are the 1.5ml ones.

I opened a ticket on GotVapes asking where to find the cartomizers for the Phoenix XL 3.0ml, and just received a reply that there are not any replacement cartomizers. That makes the Phoenix XL a throw-away, and at $11 a pop, needless to say I will not be buying another one.

RodeoGeorge, I don't think that the 3ml is a tank per se. It is a cartomizer by itself, it just holds 3ml worth of liquid and is basically the same thing as the normal Phoenix XL, but just on a larger size. I think it was named a tank because of the high volume of liquid it holds. I'm no expert, and do not work for any vendor (just another vapor like you), but that's my understanding from the videos and the site.

I can definitely see that the Phoenix XL 1.5ml is a better deal, however, as you do get 5 total for $12, instead of 1 for $11. I can carry 2 of the normal XLs and equal 3ml of juice instead of 1 of the 3ml. I think you are paying for the convenience of not having to carry 2... In either case I would opt for the 1.5ml versions. So, I would agree that the 3ml version is a little steeply priced.

Forgot to ask. Did you have an issue with the 3ml version? Did it stop working?

Big Screen you hit the nail on the head with the coil being to low. I had 3 in a 5 pack dry hitting and after pulling a strand of wick out and then pulling up on the coil to get it as high as I could without breaking it this one is working flawlessly. if they simply raised the cup and coil 1/16 of an inch that usse would be gone.

I found a decent way to raise the coil is to take my little needle tool and bent a little "L" at the tip and then used that to raise it from underneath and would actually hook the "L" into the end of the coil and gently pull up on it.

Reading over a few posts back, I see where people are experiencing dry hits. Rockin' Rob has a vid showing how he primes the wick, maybe this will help.

I jumped on the stardust bandwagon when they first came out, now I have 6 of them sitting idle because of the constant dry hits, and raw throat. This will be my first go at a bottom coil design, which in theory should be a better idea. Im still in pursuit of a good vape, without filling up the Boges every couple of Hrs. The ViVi is going to wait until Rev 2 comes out...for sure (that thead is as long as TX is wide)

Fingers crossed..

not EVERYONE is having trouble with dry hits, but i didn't have many dry hits from my stardust. After i cut the rubber up a hair, on the first stardusts, i didn't have any. You ever have a top coil that didn't give you dry hits?

Thanx kwcharlie:
The stardusts were my first experience with top coils, so I have nothing to compare against. I currently use exclusively Boge's in a tank. Like many of us, I want to reduce the consumable part of vaping to: juice, wick, and coil. What's confusing is all the comments by veterans with much more experience than me such as the top coils work fine, as long as you tilt them to allow the wick to soak, or to use longer wicks (which was the cause of the new design change). Then we have members saying they get dry hits with longer wicks, because the wicking action is slower...its a never ending argument. But like everything else in life, an individual must purchase, try, and come to their own conclusion. I take the advice on this thread (and all others), to heart, but also with a grain of salt, if that makes any sense.

I hope sooner, rather than later, Vision (who is ahead of the pack by leaps and bounds) comes right out and builds/sells a REAL rebuildable system. The ViVi is close..Anyone who have read any of my other threads, knows I keep saying the same thing over and over. Truely rebuildable, without reoccuring revenue? Pipe dream? Maybe. Yes Im talking about something that will be made in the thousands, and not cost $100, or be sold out within hours of release never to be seen again.

I fully respect our true craftsmen out there making increadable mods, but quit frankly I'm sick and tired of checking dozens of web sights daily just to see "Sold Out" or "Sign up here for the next batch to be made". No matter how killer the MOD, its still worth nothing if you cant buy it. I used to dish on chinese made products, but guess what...when they make them, they make them in train loads...I'ts just a matter of perfecting them...

Sorry for all the ranting...

Welcome to the zoo, i know where you are, we were all there at some time.

The Vision has a lot going for it, we can hope. The ViVi is a nice piece but even I get dry hits from it, the BIGGEST problem with the top coils that, IMHO, hasn’t been solved yet.
Maybe raidy will save us, after his German patent comes through, I’m not holding my breath.

Scubabatdan has done a lot of good work with the Genius (ala raidy), I haven’t built one or used the SS mesh but I agree with you it may be the answer. So far it's looking like if you spent that much time/money to kiss the frog it’s more likely you’ll see a prince when the kiss is over.

Just keep stocked up with your Boge’s and tanks, its working for you.

Decide how many frogs you can afford to buy and kiss to see if you find your prince, we’re ALL looking for him. Use what is posted from people you/we trust and wait for a chance to buy that frog to kiss to see if it’s your prince: it won’t be but it might be a nice court jester that won’t pi$$ on your shoe.

Apologies to gotvaps for a gross miss use of their forum, I’ll do better BC.

I don't get dry hits from my stardusts at all, but I also don't get any flavor

I rarely get dry hits from my fluxos ;)

Well, I got the 3ml just because it looks so awesome. I am now working on some of the smaller ones, too. It looks like I was unlucky enough to get a pack with a bad hitter in it. So, I'll be studying up on this thread a bit. Thank goodness for backups!

I'm guessing that my coil is too low, but I won't know till I vape through the working one to compare. The wicks kind of point up if the post and tube are off and that makes me think that it is too low.

Are the wicks supposed to be this loose? I took the tube off to clean the coil really good on the big tank with a Dentek brush and there were strands just hanging there. If the brush touched the wicks at all, little fibers would come loose. The same thing happened on one of the little ones. Needless to say, I'm being extra careful because I want them to last as long as possible.

Bonny I wouldn't worry about the wicks, removing strands will likely make them work better for you, it has for me (I've removed a LOT of wick)

A ball of 100% cotton yarn from michael's will serve you will, lifetime supply of 'natural' wick ;). Just twist and ease it through the coil, voila.

Thank you, I'll look into that! I have always been nervous about changing the wicks. That's sort of beyond my modding capabilities, but I'll give it a go when I get one that seems like it's done for.

if you want them to last as long as possable why did you take the tube off of the the big one that was working?
did you take the tube off the little one that was a bad hitter or all of them?

Taking the tube off shouldn't cause any trouble at all. It has a nice, tight fit and goes back on easily on both the small and large ones. If you need to mod it, you really kind of have to take them off. Not that I've done any modifications yet, just sayin'.

The one that works the best has a totally different tube on it, actually. I tried to fit an ego cone on the original tube and it got stuck  Trying to get it off actually cracked the top part of the tube. So, I put on a tube from an old fluxomizer I had that didn't work since it's pretty much the same diameter. It still works like brand new. Plus, it's green now! ;)

So the cotton wick actually works well? I tried to get through that entire thread, and my eyes started crossing half way through it. :D How does it compare to the "stock" fiberglass wick?
