The Ocelot's Mind:
I was reading about kiwis on Wikipedia when it mentioned Saint Bathans Fauna. I didn't know what that was, so I opened a window and read about it. While reading that I realized that I didn't know the difference between a "bog" and a "fen," so I had to read about those. "Peatlands" were mentioned on those pages, so I read about it too. Peat is interesting. There are lots of pictures of it wild and being harvested. There is also a debate about whether or not it should be classified as a renewable energy source, since it renews, but only about 1mm per year. Then back to the kiwi, which are often eaten by stoats, so of course I had to confirm the difference between stoats, weasels, minks and ferrets. I read something the other day about ferrets actually being hybrids, so I had to look for that too.
Those were just some of the things I was pondering when I realized that I still hadn't finished my response to Chief, which I was in the middle of before I was distracted by kiwis. Do you know that kiwis are the only birds that have nares on the end of their beak instead of up near their eyes? They can smell worms underground, that's why their eyes are so small.
