Should have known you have one. I'm going to steal your gear when your sleeping.

What are you after, Wenge?

African blackwood or snakewood, but waiting that long for one, I'd be happy with anything unique and prefer not just being brown.

Blackwood's not bad at all. Snakewood can be pretty splintery though. It turns beautifully though. Wenge is really splintery too, but it's a royal PITA to turn. Make a cut, sharpen. Make a cut, sharpen. Make a cut, curse, sharpen. Repeat.

Is it worse than Ipe?

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. Ipe really isn't used in fine woodworking. Not saying that it hasn't been done, but it's certainly not common. I've never had it in my shop. No plans to either.

Considering it's oil content, it probably wouldn't be too hard to work, but a major PITA when it comes time to finish it. That's why it makes for good deck lumber.

I would guess that it's not even close though. Wenge is a crapload harder as well as heavier/more dense & you need razor sharp tools to keep it from splintering out on you. It's gorgeous, but it's rough to work with.

I got a piece when I had my hair done on the weekend. I didn't want to buy another HUGE box of wicking material so I asked if I could have a small piece. Still waiting to try it. None of my wicks need changing yet.

Been reading a very long thread about Rayon... Thinking of trying it...

Crazy over on EVF just bought a 3# box. Not to mention a few others have the 500' boxes. I'm sure for some shipping monies, you could get all you'd ever need... and be doing them a favor in the process. :) Buda's been giving it away. I'm afraid to ask, because I've seen how much he sends you. I'd need an extra closet for it all. :D
