Ummm so let me get this straight- instead of changing your settings to prevent unwanted creepiness you changed your name instead- WE KNOW IT'S YOU TINA!

As long as the internet/webs exist, so will creepiness- no matter what you call yourself.

That wasn't the only reason. I needed to change it.

Why do people care? There are more reasons than that but I don't really want to get into them here.

Sometimes we create usernames that tell to much about our true identity. Back when teh interwebz first started (mid 90s) I created many user names actually using my real name. Seems obvious these days that it's not a good idea but at the time it was hard to realize what bad could come of it.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that Tina's old name also more than hinted at her geographic location. That and a profile pic or two is enough to give her real identity away to coworkers, friends, or random internet creeps.

You spend enough time anywhere (including Internet forums) and you develop real relationships. Sometimes we give away to much to in an attempt to strengthen those relationships. I'm still guilty of doing that from time to time even though my day job for the last 15 years has been about protecting data & personal information.

Yes, we all know it's still Tina...but 'Southern Tina' could be from anywhere, the old Tina was from a much more specific location that a 5 year old could figure out. Just sayin'. Live & learn :D

Thank you. Exactly why I changed it.
