Dear my favorite people in the world,

So for about a week now I've been searching for a device that allows me to vape at both 3.7 (extended time frames) and 5v but the issue is there seems to be so few out there, or ones that just do 3.7 or 5-6v. I've also been looking at the Buzz from NotCig.com which seems to be everything I want, but after the adapter, special volt checker cable thingy and all that it comes to $130ish after the coupon. My question is, is there something out there under the $100 mark minus the special adapters and other proprietary stuff that will let me do the 3.7/5v options? I don't mind swapping batteries, I just don't need to be carrying the other stuff around with me too.

Thanks :vapor:

If I'm completely wrong here, please ignore, I'm fairly new yet.

I think the problem you will run into here is that almost anything that produces 5v has to use either regulators or resistors internally to hit it, so wouldn't be able to product 3.7 anymore with the same device.

Exceptions to this would be devices that use a passthrough as an optional power source (which should hit 5 with the right plug), but then you are limited by the cable.

The only other thing I've seen (though the expense and battery life are both issues in my view) is the Mako Maksi at electronicstix.com, which I think actually uses a 5 volt battery to hit the 5v mark.

Otherwise, you might be better off messing around with a high capacity 3.7 device and low res attys to simulate the 5v action. Or learn to build the inline booster, which is currently way beyond my abilities.

Why not try a box mod and have one of each? Kens Boxmods has a 5v mod for $35 and a 3.7 v for $27 with free shipping. These are my 24-hour vaping devices. They use the same batteries which is handy. I vape with the 3.7v at work with a LR atty and save the 5v for my R&R time at home in the evenings. It works out really well. Just something to consider.

I believe the cheap box mod at madvapes.com will do the trick. They use a 5V regulator that will allow 3.7V to pass. So you use one 3.7V and a dummy and you get 3.7V vaping. Use 2 3.7V and you get the regulated 5V. Try their subforum for more info:
MadVapes - E-Cigarette Forum

They even had them in their bargain bin, ones that had ugly extra epoxy or cracked cases for like 20 bucks. If they still have any that's a pretty cheap way to give it a test.

You guys are the best, really you are! I've made a list now and have started sorting through them :p I think it has come down to the MadVapes Box Mod, the Maksi and the Buzz (to tempting). I love the affordability of the box mod, but the ability to take abuse the other two offer, I think I'm going have to rethink the price block I put on my self and think of this as one of those "It's a one time thing, go for it" situations that happen after having such a debate in ones head over high dollar purchases. :p

Naaaaaw, take a look at the list of vaping devices under the posts of your fellow vapers in their signature lines. You think they started vaping with a plan to own every new pv that hit the market? Not likely.
There is always the possibility that you may be the exception, but most vapers are in a continued search for the perfect vaping device which does not and probably never will exist. We substantiate our quest and its expenses by knowing we have kicked the cigarette habit.
Good luck on your choice.:vapor:

Probably not...especially if it has protection built into it...its not going to pass the voltage through the dead battery. At least if I'm thinking how the power flows through.

Yah, that makes sense. I actually just took one of the bats out of my mod and it hit just like it would have at 5 volts. So I would guess even with one battery it's only going to drain the one battery faster.

Sorry for highjacking the thread.

Would one fresh battery and one dead battery work??
Not really. Its not a good idea to try to pass current through a dead battery. A metal bar the size of the battery works best. Go to a local hobby shop, if there is one by you. Get a piece of brass bar stock for a buck or two. It doesn't need to be the same diameter, just big enough to not be too bendy. Cut it to about the length of a battery. Wrap it in electrical tape (kapton tape is even better but not in the typical hobbyist's arsenal) and you're good.

Id like to throw my 2c into this topic

Check out the GLV Mini... Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor As i understand it, you can use the mini to vape at 3.7v.. purchase a seperate "full size" tube, and you can use the mini to vape at 6v.

Also, Jay from GLV JUST released a taster of the future of GLV.. The GLV 3! Its a long long way off.. but according to the post in the GLV 3 Thread in the GLV forum.. it will feature "on the fly" voltage adjustment.. so its going to be fun to see how this one unfolds.

But for sure look into a GLV Mini... im waiting on my GLV 2 to be delivered atm.

their is always the LR atty option.
I urge you to give strong consideration to this option, especially if the cost of devices like the Buzz or Nuck FistPack is prohibitive for you.

Get a good 3.7V mod and try it with various atomizers. Most such mods are based either on the ~900 mAh 14500 battery or the 2400+ mAh 18650 battery. [There are exceptions.] Both are very good batts (especially AW and Tenergy). The former are smaller, but, of course, don't deliver as many puffs per battery charge ... the latter are larger, but enable vaping for about two days between charges.

Consult ViZi's master guide for the vast range of choices. His battery chart shows which mods work at which voltages. Whatever you do, only use protected batteries: either PCB or AW batts, which have both PCB and venting. Pay attention not only to size and shape, but also to the type and position of the button, e.g., I am uncomfortable with ....-switched mods, prefering to engage the battery with my thumb or forefinger. Many people's preferences are the other way around.

If you would like semi-automatic juice injection (and are comfortable with a box mod), the $60 WetBox is very intriguing.

If you are a 510 user, the fat batts (as I call them) are another direction to go. ViZi calls them "Custom Mods." The best known is the eGO (aka Tornado) ... but less expensive, higher mAh models recently have arrived on the scene. The eGO is only 3.4V, but that's plenty for the 510 atty (regular or LR). A couple of the others are somewhat higher voltage.

I started this same exact quest several weeks ago. All the ones that you can buy were just a bit to pricey for me right now, so in the end, I'm setting out to build my own. Soon, hopefully this weekend, I'll have everything to build a 3.7v box mod. If that goes good, then I'll progress up to a 5v box mod. After that, the possibilities are endless. Cost of the stuff I ordered from Madvapes, to build a 3.7v box mod, was only around $20. Would have been lower, but I ordered a soldering iron too.

This is just another option for you, if you want to try to build your own. I'm not the most technical or handy person, but the itch to give it a try is killing me. All the picture tutorials make it look so easy.
