specs: The 30ml bottle of Bauway RY4 I purchased from indyvaporshop is an amber-orange transparent liquid, 24mg nic strength, in an unspecified PG/VG base ratio. Id guess around 80/20 from the viscosity. Testing was performed using a Boge LR 2.2 ohm carto on a ProVari set to 4.3 volts for 8.4 watts of vaping power.
Recently I wanted to get another small bottle of Halo Tribeca for my RY4 stash/collection/museum. Id been sent a 3ml bottle of Tribeca originally (last year) by another thread poster. That bottle contained only 2ml, enough for a review and one more carto fill. I didnt care that I had so little, because I disliked Tribeca initially. Why? Not because of the recipe mix---which was delicious---but because of Halos signature purity base tone---which tastes like solvent or hospital sick-room disinfectant to my brain, and overwhelmed the flavorings. But, after many months of steeping (meaning that it sat quietly in my RY4 cabinet), that undertone diminished to the vanishing point, and then Tribeca won me over with its yumminess. As a result, I wanted to restock it in my stash.
Since I felt taht $6 was a bit high for a 7ml sample bottle (Halos price), I googled Tribeca and discovered that indyvaporshop sold it for $4.95, which I subsequently ordered. While on the indyvaporshop site, I noticed a sale (maybe a closeout) on
Bauway RY4---$9.95 for 60ml. Hmmm. Another authentic Chinese RY4. OK, Ill bite. Taking one for the team, so to speak.
Today I loaded up a carto and tried it. To my complete surprise, what I got on my first toke of
Bauway RY4 was the very same solvent/acetone/disinfectant/bug spray base tone that I get from Halo tobacco juices! Quite a shock, since Id never gotten that tone from any juices other than Halos.
There must be something genetic about this. Some of us must have genes that interpret the Halo/Bauway base tone as
pure and clean, while others of us (presumably a smaller percentage) have genes that interpret it as
toxic weirdness. For me, its more a smell than a flavor, although I cant smell it when I sniff, only when I vape.
Underneath that (or on top of it, whatever) Bauway RY4 seems a very pleasant mix of flavors, but I just cant get past that base tone, so I wont even try to give it a proper review or a grade. Ill just put it away uncapped in the cupboard for a month or two to see if---as happened wonderfully with Tribeca---the base tone diminishes or goes away entirely.
So, rather than cast any undeserved aspersions in the direction of Halo or Bauway, let me say simply that you need the right genes to appreciate their juices. Obviously, many vapers go cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs over Halo e-liquids, and Im pretty sure that those folks and others might find
Bauway RY4 just as good.
Bauway RY4 is on sale at indyvaporshop right now---60ml/24mg for $9.95. That's a heck of a price. If you have the right genes, you might like it a lot. Get some before its gone.
