specs: The newest bottle I have of Caramel Spanish Gold was purchased from Sweet-Vapes and is now 13 months old. It contains a deep maroon transparent liquid, 24mg nic strength, in a 40PG/60VG base blend. The juice has no scent that I can discern. Tasting was done by dripping into a 2.1 ohm joyetech 510 atty powered by a VAMO set to 9.0 watts RMS.

Almost two years ago, on March 6th, 2012, thread poster Cthulhu Saves asked about Sweet-Vapes:

“Can anyone tell me about the RY4 and ‘Caramel Spanish Gold’ variant from Sweet-Vapes? They're a bit pricey, but are they worth it?”

Here’s my response at the time, in post #1260:

“Sweet-Vapes RY4 is on the Big List and was reviewed in post #774. Caramel Spanish Gold is a tobacco blend that I happen to like quite a bit, but---like so many caramel-tobacco juices---it's not really an RY4, and to my palate doesn't taste like one, either. That said, both Caramel Spanish Gold and Mapacho Tobacco are in my stable of daily vapes.”

Today I happened to visit the Sweet-Vapes web site, and I noticed their description of Caramel Spanish Gold:

“Our signature Spanish Gold blend mixed with an amazing sweet caramel, topped with the perfect vanilla. Our version of RY4.”

Reading this made me reconsider my former stance, especially in light of the more recent crop of custom RY4s that have appeared over the past year or so made with natural tobacco extracts (NETs). These include MyVapeJuice Rogue RY4, MountainOakVapor Full Virginia Flake RY4, and QuickNicJuice ouR why qu4tro. Caramel Spanish Gold belongs with an older group of the earliest NET-based custom RY4s, along with VapeRite VR4, Want2Vape RY4, and PrimeVaping PV4.

I’ve decided to include Caramel Spanish Gold on The Big RY4 List mainly because Sweet-Vapes considers it an RY4, and it tastes similar to a couple of the other NET-based custom RY4s now available.

Caramel Spanish Gold is an RY4 where the tobacco takes a back seat to the potent caramel and vanilla, which command center stage in the flavor profile. Like VapeRite VR4, my brain’s immediate response to CSG is “Wow! What a rich caramel flavor!” I don’t immediately taste the vanilla, but it’s definitely there, serving to make the caramel even more luscious---ultra-creamy rather than hard-candy-like. The juice isn’t especially sweet, but the caramel-vanilla combo is intensely rich, almost “thick” in its mouthfeel.

If the component flavor of the natural tobacco extract were stronger and more obviously present, this would be a superbly balanced custom RY4, worthy of comparison with a fresh bottle of QuickNic ouR whY qu4tro. As it is, the tobacco remains in the background, and the juice ends up in what I consider a lesser category---merely a good dessert RY4. That’s not a bad thing, but my personal feeling is that it could be better with a more robust tobacco element.

I'd like to throw in a recommendation for Mister-E-Liquid's RY4. It reminds me of Vapor Knoll's OurY-4 and that's a good thing. They also have a coupon code "VapeTV".

There's a reason why Mister-E-Liquid MrE's RY4 gets an "A" grade on The Big RY4 Report Card. It's a superb custom RY4. Thanks for the heads up on the coupon code for those who haven't tried it. I presume that's 10% off.

It's Really Good and you guys are Killing me, 30ml Ry4 on the way with 30ml of Bermuda Rain, a really refreshing Fruit Vape I enjoyed last year.

Still waiting for the Indigo juices to come around. I am steeping the tobaccos but I have been vaping the classic RY4 and the regular. The classic is nice, it is unique and it is smooth.

The RY4 is just ok, but I put it up to steep to see if it blends a little better. I definitely get some cinnamon from it and combined with the base, I'm not a big fan but I'm gonna give it a little more time to make a true assessment.

I am looking forward to breaking into the hybrid RY4 Eastwood next week, I have high hopes for that one along with the Duke. Figured I'd give those two a month to come together.

specs: My 15ml bottle of IndigoVapor Eastwood contains an auburn-colored transparent liquid at 24mg nic strength in an unspecified base blend that feels to me like 50/50 PG/VG. The juice has no discernible scent. Testing was done by dripping into a standard 2.1 ohm Joyetech 510 atty powered by a VAMO set to 9.0 watts RMS.

IndigoVapor Eastwood, which is a 50/50 mix of RY (Indigo’s original version of RY4) with The Duke (one of the very tasty synthetic tobacco blends that Tony concocted and sells at IndigoVapor). Although I mixed my own bottle, Eastwood is available as a pre-mixed juice on the IndigoVapor web site.

Indigo has two RY4s already reviewed and on The Big List, but it had not occurred to me that Eastwood might qualify also. Well, time to correct that oversight, especially since Lombaowski just mentioned Eastwood in her post above.

Here are the descriptions of the respective juices from their product pages on the Indigo web site:

The Duke:
"If you are looking for a strong, bold and flavorful tobacco - The Duke is for you. This is a tobacco that the Man himself would be proud to vape!"

Indigo RY:
"RY4 done the Indigo Vapor way! Indulge in this perfect melding of caramel, vanilla and a rich complex tobacco. Pick this up and put down your other RY4's."

Eastwood:
"The long awaited Duke and Indigo RY combo - pre-mixed for your vaping ease! Tony has been recommending that people try a 50/50 blend - and everyone loves it! Now you can try it with no mixing hassle!"
Eastwood’s moniker is obviously an homage to The Man with No Name, Clint Eastwood’s famous anti-hero gunslinger from Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, just as The Duke is a reference to John Wayne and a subtler homage to The Marlboro Man. Naming conventions aside, I don’t feel that Eastwood the eliquid owes much to Clint Eastwood, who chewed on cheroot cigars throughout the three-movie series.

Eastwood is a Custom RY4, and obviously one that belongs in the category of Stronger Tobacco, since it’s made from a rather intensely flavored synthetic tobacco. The RY4 element of Eastwood is somewhat restrained, as one might imagine of a 50/50 Frankenblend. Still, the caramel and vanilla components do come through and make their presence felt (uh, tasted), so I feel that Eastwood deserves inclusion on The Big RY4 List.

If you like RY4 but like good synthetic tobacco juices even more, then Eastwood may be just the ticket. One might call it a lean RY4, but that's only because of the reduced caramel and vanilla components. Overall, it's richly flavorful. I pick up a very slight nuttiness in Eastwood, which is both interesting and odd, since I don’t taste any nuts in either RY or The Duke when I vape those by themselves. The nuttiness isn’t strong, and my palate may be mis-identifying another flavor as nutty, but I like it.

Eastwood has some sweetness, but it’s not emphatic, and nowhere near enough to make it a dessert RY4. No, this is definitely a Stronger Tobacco RY4.

The 50-50 mix of The Duke and RY works well, and that’s what you’ll get if you order a bottle pre-mixed from the Indigo web site. I tried a 60-40 mix (60% RY to 40% Duke), but no, the 50-50 mix is significantly better.

Personally, I like Eastwood more than Indigo RY (and more than The Duke by itself), but not as much as I like Indigo Classic, so I’ll leave Classic in the A group, give Eastwood RY’s former slot in the B+ group, and drop RY down to B-. For me, Eastwood is a decided improvement on Indigo RY, and I’ll feel more comfortable with RY in the B- group.

specs: The 15 bottle of RY4 I purchased from KillerJuice contains an amber-colored transparent liquid at 18mg nic strength in an unspecified base blend whose viscosity suggests to me a 50/50 PG/VG base or something in that neighborhood. Scent of the juice is very slight but pleasant. I gave the juice a one-week steep before sampling and review. Testing was done by dripping into a 2.1 ohm standard Joyetech 510 atomizer powered by a VAMO set to 9.0 watts RMS.

Here is the “mission statement” from the KillerJuice home page:

“Here at Killer Juice, we are vaping experts; we prefer only true and naturally flavored juices and liquids. That is why we started our own brand. We offer a number of different blends and never ship anything without it being tested for quality. No other liquid, or juice company out there lives up to our strict quality control standards. Before a new flavor comes out we take the time to test and alter the flavor until it is perfect for our customers.

Unlike other juice companies, our all natural extract flavorings let you experience and savor the full taste of flavor, as nature intended.

Each natural liquid flavor is made without added coloring, stabilizers or artificial flavored ingredients. Your mouth will come alive with tastes of notes and tones of pure, fresh flavor without the bitter after taste of artificial additives.”
I always cringe a little when vendors imply---either subtly or unabashedly---that “we’re better than the other guys.” Even if that were true, reading such ad copy makes me uncomfortable. It's one thing to proclaim confidence in the excellence of one's products, but quite another to dis one's competitors. Yes, I’m in favor of natural ingredients when possible and applaud KillerJuice for using only all-natural ingredients, but I wish they wouldn’t put down other vendors.

By longstanding precedent, Classic RY4s use synthetic flavorings. Since KillerJuice RY4 uses only natural ingredients, it is necessarily a Custom RY4. This brings up a question about the tobacco element of the juice. Is it indeed a flavoring from natural tobacco extract (NET)? Tobacco Absolute is considered natural, but it’s almost always used in combination with other synthetic, lab-based tobacco flavorings. Also, TA has a distinctive taste that is not present in KJ RY4, unlike RY4s from Mom&PopVaporShop or Moondrop, which are obviously TA-based. Most retail juice vendors who make and sell NET-based juices usually state that their tobacco flavorings are natural extractions, sometimes even specifying an in-house extraction process and source tobaccos, but KillerJuice gives only the blanket statement that all their ingredients are natural. So, this should be an NET-based RY4 and may indeed be. My palate says that it probably is, but I can't confirm that with 100% certainty.

That question aside, this is a well-made and balanced RY4. The component flavorings---tobacco, caramel, and vanilla---play together happily here, and the result is harmonious rather than competitive. No single flavor element stands out, and the caramel and vanilla especially blend into a unity that is unusual for Custom RY4s. This is not a nutty RY4, although I pick up a toasted quality, presumably from the tobacco flavoring, that is slightly reminiscent of nuts. The tobacco doesn’t grab center-stage, but I feel that it does set the tone, as is the case with other NET-based RY4s. This tobacco is mild rather than strong, but it's complex rather than one-dimensional and full of flavor. The caramel and vanilla combine to enhance this effect.

The overall flavor profile of the juice stays right in the center of the road, not straying toward any extreme. Neither overly rich nor especially sweet, KJ RY4 is also not lean or savory. All in all, this is an RY4 that celebrates tradition and the Holy Trinity of tobacco, caramel, and vanilla in very competent fashion. I don’t consider it a particularly “exciting” RY4, but that’s not a criticism. We don’t vape RY4 for excitement, but instead for comfort and pleasure, and KillerJuice RY4 provides those qualities quite nicely.

While no eliquid pleases everyone, I am hard-pressed to imagine any RY4 lover who wouldn’t give this juice a thumbs-up, especially those who are tobacco fans. To me, KillerJuice RY4 comes up just short of qualifying as superb, but it’s very good nonetheless. I like it.

I have a question for all you RY4 experts. I was going through my recent bottles, and came across a bottle of RY4 with no vendor name on it. It just has "CAUTION: Keep away from children...Must be 18 to purchase," and RY4 24mg, and a picture of a cabin.

So my question is, "Does anybody know where this came from?"

It smells like your basic classic mix. I will fill a carto, but I would like to know the vendor before I really give it a review.

Yes, dude, that picture of a cabin is HealthCabin's logo. So odds are very good that it's HealthCabin's house-brand RY4, which is a decent, middle-of-the-road Classic RY4.

I started back vaping a little while ago, after a few year hiatus and have been searching for what was rumored to be an RY4 that I loved. It was from Puresmoker and called Riskee Yuice from around 2009. All the RY4's I've tried are satisfactory but not what I remembered Riskee to be.

Thought I'd ask the RY4 experts if there's anything that might be similar. Anyone remember that flavor?

Puresmoker is out of business, but ESmoke4Life took over sales of Riskee Yuice and sells it to this day. Supposedly, it's the same juice that Cash made and sold.

Riskee Yuice was reviewed in the original post of the thread, has been on The Big RY4 List since the get-go, and is linked below:

specs:

TheVapeMall RY4: 18mg nic, max VG (probably 15/85), pale gold transarent color, slight but pleasant nose
TheVapeMall RY4 2.0: 18mg nic, max VG (probably 15/85), peach transparent color, no discernible scent
TheVapeMall RY4X: 18mg nic, max VG (probably 15/85), pale gold transarent color, distinctly fruity scent

After steeping for a week, the juices were sampled by dripping into a 2.3 ohm Joyetech 510SR atty powered by a VAMO set to 9.0 watts RMS.

TheVapeMall is a new deep discount online juice vendor (15mls $4.99, 30mls $6.99, with flat-rate shipping for only $2.75) whose eliquids are 100% USA-made and hand-mixed in-house. TVM offers numerous customer options: glass or plastic bottles, nic strength, PG/VG ratio choices, and bottle sizes from 5ml to 120mls.

Descriptions of TheVapeMall's three RY4s from their respective product pages:

RY4: no description
RY4 2.0: "A smoother version our our standard RY4 also with a slight vanilla taste to it."
RY4X: "A tobacco that has a sweet and minty taste to it."

I’m puzzled. If TheVapeMall’s RY4 2.0 is “a smoother version of our standard RY4 with a slight vanilla taste,” does that mean that their standard RY4 is rougher or more aggressive, with either richer vanilla or no vanilla at all? No way to know except to vape it and find out, since TheVapeMall didn’t feel it necessary to provide a description of their regular RY4. And, while I'm at it, why is RY4X described as "tobacco" rather than RY4? Ah, sweet mysteries of life and marketing...

OK, I just vaped some TVM RY4, and---wonder of wonders---it’s a Classic RY4 in the best Chinese tradition! That’s quite a surprise, since only a small number of American vendors who mix their own juices in-house make and sell a Classic RY4. Actually, it’s a very good sign, because the vast majority of Classic RY4s are pretty darn good, unlike Custom RY4s, which vary wildly from superb to awful. TVM RY4 is no exception to the rule. It’s strongly reminiscent to me of SmokelessImage Volt RY4, which is made in China, as far as I know, and is among the highest graded RY4s on The Big List. The two juices aren't identical, but they are in the same ballpark, and TVM RY4 is almost as good. I’m shocked. I expected a crappy Custom RY4, and this is terrific: a neutral synthetic tobacco with caramel and vanilla that's perfectly balanced and completely blended into a single, unified end flavor that’s bright and pleasing, with great treble notes.

Next up is RY4 2.0, which is supposedly a smoother version of TVM RY4 with presumably more vanilla. And yes, that’s what I think it wants to be. Unfortunately, it doesn’t succeed. This is what I thought the RY4 might taste like, and I’m really glad it didn’t. Some juices are immediately pleasing, other juices are acquired tastes, and still others are just not good. Guess which RY4 2.0 is? Yes kids, it’s Door #3. Not good. Sorry.

Last but not least is RY4X---RY4 with sweet mint added. I’m not a fan of mint, sweet or otherwise, so this juice isn’t designed for me. Surprisingly, I think RY4 fans who like mint might enjoy this a lot. A whole lot. Even I don’t hate it, despite my loathing for minty eliquids. It’s interesting. The mint doesn’t overwhelm the RY4. Instead, it tags along for the ride, and the extra sweetness helps quite a bit. I can hardly believe I’m writing this, but TVM RY4X is refreshing, clean-tasting, and almost delicious. I might even vape this juice when I’m in a mood for something that stretches my palate in unexpectedly pleasing ways. So, once again I’m surprised.

Given TheVapeMall’s dirt-cheap prices, I expected three sub-par RY4s. To get one Classic RY4 that’s terrific, one Custom RY4 (RY4X) that’s interesting, and only one (RY4 2.0) that’s a loser, well, that amounts to a big win for TheVapeMall. Two lovely keepers and only one that’s destined to go down the drain. [Note: having read recently that pouring eliquids down the drain might be a bad practice for water systems, perhaps I’ll pour it onto the garden outside.]

TheVapeMall RY4 grades:
RY4: A-
RY4 2.0: D
RY4X: B

after correspondence with Mr Bill, and with his ok, I've decided to post part of my original message and concerns ... I do so hoping The Vape Mall will see this and respond appropriately ... these are my concerns only, others may feel differently, as is your right ... I admit my fears may be completely unfounded, but finding NO company information on the website both irritates me to no end and scares me off

as enticing as these liquids sound, I have no idea who makes them, how they are made, where they are made, where the company is, there is no address, no phone number, no photos, and no named company owners or employees ... I had to go to their Facebook page to find out they are somewhere in St Louis ... the map navigation didn't work for me, so I couldn't come up with any further information

this kind of anonimity, whether purposeful or not, just turns me off to ever returning to their website ... perhaps it's an oversite and if they see this, hopefully they will provide more info

their Terms & Conditions page is lengthy and written in extremely formal legalese, it would make a corporate lawyer proud ... it's so comprehensive it's almost as if they expect trouble

Quote by Bill
[Note: having read recently that pouring eliquids down the drain might be a bad practice for water systems, perhaps I’ll pour it onto the garden outside.]

yet, we gleefully inhale liquids from unknown sources, I've done it before, but don't do it anymore, I value my health more than a vendors product ... the vaping community needs to police new vendors and by policing I mean don't purchase until those vendors comply with generally accepted vaping community business practices, demand accountability and transparency, just my own opinion, of course

so, I respectfully say to to The Vape Mall; please tell us who you are, where you are, show us/tell us about your lab, how you make your e-liquids, who makes them, what testing is done, and show us all those other transparencies that most vendors provide ... there is none of this information currently on your website

you may very well be a legitimate, responsible vendor who sells safe, properly made e-liquid, so please, just show us

with government intervention looming, any hint of non-compliance or non-transparency doesn't look good for the vendors or the vaping industry

I could never get ITC Vapes RY4 to work for me. I tried it in four different toppers and got the same taste: caramel, vanilla, ashtray. I know the reviews have largely been good with this one, but it just doesn't jive with me. In fact it's the worst RY4 I've ever sampled outside of the one Vape Dojo offers SamuRY4, which doesn't even taste like an RY4 to me.

Oh well, one bad one out of 25 is a pretty good average I guess. The guy I gave it to at work really likes it though, so the juice found a good home. :thumb:

So the Vaporboost RY4 Deluxe came in ......First of it had that cookie smell to it with caramel and vanilla and I was like this should be great. So I get it going and........I have been down this road, it is different though in its own way because its almost just like Spicy RY4 from ECBlends but just has the nutty tones, but really its nothing to exciting just a RY4 with a nutty kick. The more I vape it it almost reminds me of Tribeca also. I paid around $16.00 with free shipping and I will vape it because its not a horrible custom RY4 and the only RY4 I have with nut in it. So if you like Tribeca and Spicy RY4 this would be right down your road.
