Val, first off let me say, hello my dear. New thread, new light, the prettier you become to me. Now about the foot soldiers just doin' their job part - I never make it personal. I know the guy on the other end wants to be there about as much as we want to go to a dentist. I also know the man that just served me a #1 Value meal from McDonalds tonight, who was a little older than me, probably wasn't part of his gameplan early in life. So whether you're being legally solicited or some dirty hustle, the plan stays the same. You let them pitch, faint interest, never insult them, excuse yourself. The phone jockey does his job, but his boss takes a hit. I mean, it's a passive way to hit 'em where it hurts, instead of just taking it out on the poor guy on the other end. Plus it wastes their resources, win-win.

I always try to be polite about it as well, but some peeps don't understand "sorry, I'm nut interested" and refuse to give up. Gives the rest of the telemarketers a bad rap

We have been getting the ones for walk in tubs - after many different tries to get them off my phone, the one that works is, "I am sorry, Mr. & Mrs. DH aren't home right now, and you will need to speak to them." The one for solar panels, "Ow wow! How funny, DH used to install them! He has connections!". For the contractors who are soliciting business, "OH! DH is a contractor too! Good luck, have a great day!" For the newspaper, "DH just cancelled that for some reason, so you are really going to have to speak to him on that, though I wouldn't recommend it as he wasn't too happy with you guys. I remember it was a big deal, but really you have to talk to him, he'll be home after 7 pm. Have a great day!" And if it isn't even a human, or if I can hear the boiler room in the background before they have the time to answer my "hello", I hang up.

I have been cooped up in this house for too long, I know them all and have managed to figure out the best way to get them off my phone and never calling back. Or at least calling when DH can waste time with them. He does this in the stores too, he will stand there chit chatting about getting different cable, or a satellite dish (over my dead body) and sometimes after I have ambled off and actually got the shopping done I literally have to go back and get him moving along. It usually goes something like this, "DH, you are NOT getting satellite/new cable/cell phone etc. There is NO WAY we are changing anything. We are going to be late to (insert whatever). Let's go." He is fascinated with sales people and wasting their time

Mornin REOville! So glad it's Friday. Snow on the grass outside, lots of wrecks around the city last night but the streets and sidewalks seem to be just wet this morning. Wishing I could go to the REO meet this weekend, but it just isn't possible, hoping this becomes an annual thing and I can get there in the future. Everyone have a great day!
