Nah...don't feel like that. These have been evolving for years. If you are just getting ready to buy a reo, the contacts are already upgraded so you don't need to worry about it.
Rob came out with new gold plated contacts that are more efficient and allow us to sub ohm. Its $25 for the kit and u do it yourself or you can send it to Rob and he will convert the reo for $35 I believe which includes the kit. All new reos will have these contacts already installed. Don't worry I'm a noob too

What are these others? Ones you modded yourself? Can't wait to get it, it's for the summer, we are so busy in the summer I need something tough with no electronics in case it gets wet. What else should I get. I think I'm getting the Black Wrinkle with purple metallic door. I spoked at the SL. Is it just me, I don't want my guts showing lol

Here is the Chalice. Its a high dollar rba, works well and looks fantastic. I have one and I'll never part with it. These are the ERA and Hornet atomizers. I'm not overly fond of the internals setup. The RM or Reomizer is the first version of what we're using now. It was a great start, but the RM2 is loads better. Both the RM and RM2 are Chinese made RBAs that Rob purchased and then modified to his specs.
