One of the beauties of the large format for me was very much likeyour meditative feeling in the darkroom. The large format definitely made one much more contemplative while photographing. It was very hand-on and fairly slow. It helped me to see and to be patient. That being said, I could stop my car and set up the camera and make an exposure in one minute if time were critical. I could also wait for hours waiting for conditions to emerge. The expense also made me judicious as to when to shoot and how much to shoot. The control allowed by the camera in terms of DOF and perspective control were wonderful not to mention the detail that was there. Digital now has matched or exceeded 4x5 from the reports of master photographers but extremely expensive if one wants to play that game. Its way beyond what I can spend.

Upside down and backwards viewing an the ground glass was way cool. It helped in visualizing the various elements of the compostion. After a while under the dark cloth the image on the ground glass became normal and I wouldnt notice the reversed image. The brain made the switch.

After writing this maybe I'll buy a 10 sheet pack and give it a go again! Its been years. :)

You are so lucky. I love the quality of the image that you can get with large format, but being a "mini gal" the Mamiya C220 was the closest I could get :)

Just love that fresh battery, couple of vapes and nothing! Change to a different battery, nothing. Finally admit it is probably the atty and switch. AHHHHH....yes, new battery and new atty!!! Happy now!

there is nothing like the first couple of pulls off a fresh battery.

sounds like a line from apocalypse now......

Good morning, everyone! :) All caught up, waking up with my coffee & Mini Woodvil. Heading back to work.

We love pictures, Wingapo! Bring em'!

I miss my Nikon. The only reason I don't use it is because developing film is so much more expensive. I have buckets and buckets of pictures left over from those days! Several 30 gal totes. I was a hard sell on digital....so much to re-learn a different way of taking pictures. Honestly, I wasn't interested. I still won't say that digital is better, but it is definitely different.

Okay...I'm off to work. BBL.

Wow David I am sure glad you didn't type that "these tips were hand blown", that would have just pushed my mind down the gutter and into the drain! Thank you so much for leaving that out and changing your original post!
Truthfully though, they are hand blown! :) Bought some myself! I just had to add my 2 cents!

Yeah, Dave, when I was typing up that info about the pyrex tips I had originally typed "these tips are hand blown" but quickly edited and went with "made by hand". So to your point (and to drag somebody in this with me) most of us innocent guy members in the lounge try to keep it PG-13 :nun:

Just sayin :D

Just more proof you are "in" the club!!!! Hehehehe!

I hang around here long enough and y'all will realize you can't corrupt the corrupted. But I'm trying to put forth a good impression. I'm trying to shine my halo as we speak - hard to do when the horns keep getting in the way.
