My apologies, FLgolfer, I just assumed you were getting a newer LP Grand.
The aluminum (silver) spring and firing pin are the older version. I really don't think it would be wise to go much below 0.8 ohms.
The gold-plated spring and firing pin can go to about 0.3 ohms.
Either way, if you go to low on your ohms, the battery spring collapses. It is designed to do so. This is a safety measure to protect the mod/ user in the event of a dead short.
When you get your mod, look carefully at the spring, see if it is bent or deformed in any way. If the mod has been shorted, and the previous owner 'pulled' or 'stretched' the spring back into shape then it would be better just to replace the spring. Or send it to Rob for a 'Spa Treatment'.

gotcha.....no i dont have a button top to try...when i push the button, the battery pushes down the coil but i dont know whats going wrong?
does it have the adjustable 510 pin? If that's adjusted all the way down, then you might need to use the allen key to raise the pin, by turning it clockwise so that it makes contact with the 510 on the atty

Most flat tops work fine in the grands

im guessing reos cant take a flat top 18650?

REOs will work with flat top batteries. Many people use them. They cause the button throw to make contact a bit longer, which IMO may lead to premature failure of the switch leaf. Some people will put a door magnet on the positive post of a flat top battery, to shorten the throw, and replicate a button top. Rob, of course, doesn't officially endorse this. If there is a tear I the top of the battery wrapper, and the magnet shifts, causing it to contact the positive and negative at the same time, it creates a short.
I use flat tops in my Woodvils and P67s, which have side switches. But I stick to AW button tops in my Grands.
