They use ground up shells, or ground up coquina rock, or concrete. It's too hot for tar based paving material.
That makes sense, hadn't thought of that. Well my snowbird boss keeps inviting me down to visit him in St. Pete. I may have to take him up on that sometime soon.

Won't be doing any burn outs on those roads, I'll bet.
We have a golf cart here, and when the road gets icy, I enjoy taking it down to the biggest parking lot on property and spinning around in circles.

Kicks ayuss. Should film it...

Where you been bro, I've missed seeing you around. I was in JC in September. It was a quick in-and-out for a family reunion or I would've tried to meet up with you. Always good to see family. Had been a long time.
Been around, but not logged in though. Finally finished college, and graduated back in May. Since then, put a new Metal roof on the house; cut down a maple tree that was causing foundation & gutter problems; doing brushwork on the property (love that Troy Bilt blade extension); working lots of overtime; and try to do some fishing on days I'm off. Don't blame ya for not wanting to stick around long for those family reunions. ;) (they all ask so many questions to the point of just wanting to make a video to explain it all. :?:) I'm hoping to see lots of snow soon, but everyone is like.. "You're crazy!". Nothing wrong with beautiful snow. :w00t:

Great to see you around and congratulations on finishing college!!

Really enjoying reading the chit chat and beautiful picture posts! Got back a few days ago from visiting family (checking on dementia status really) who live in WAY Northern Minnesota. They were having summer-like weather (60's/50's) but it certainly changed rapidly a couple days after we left. We are getting some glorious much needed rain here in Northern Calif. I'm dancing here

BTW, much appreciation for the discussion a few PGA back about the up-side down Z coil in an O-16. Tried it and like those little guys even more now. Love life-long learning!

Hey Robin. It's been awhile. Sounds like the weather we have around here. 60's day; 45's at night. I'm actually hoping to see some snow. I've seen talk about the Z coil. Sounds like a good coil build, but I'm still doing the basic single coil, and using the RM3 on Han Solo, and brass RM2 on Chewie. I've not used the Woodvil at all. It just sits up on the shelf covered up. Is the Z coil better than the Clapton coil? I know it varies from different people, but does it work better for you?

A Z coil is nothing special, it's not a type of coil like Clapton etc - it just refers to a coil that is mounted between posts rather than he conventional way of mounting a coil in front of posts. It's only possible in a few attys, like the O-16, Stumpy etc. Another word for it is "center coil."

I'm currently running a Z coil in my O-16 that is 8 wraps of 26g 316L.

Why Z coil? Well, I like them because it allows me to have airflow come in from both sides equidistant from the coil. That's about the only reason I do it. I don't like duals, just singles, but I do like 2 airflow holes open, and don't like it when one is super close to the coil and one farther away.

Hence why I'm a Z-Sloth. :D

He tells a story of playing in a hockey tournament (as a kid) in Sault St. Marie...walking across the schools parking lot, tripping on something, said he kicked the snow around, it was the TOP of a jungle gym on the playground.

I have some pics of the snow here in East TN on Jan. 21. But it's been awhile since I've been on, and forgot how to include the pictures.

Edit: snow we got Friday night. I was the only person on the roads when coming home from working the 3rd shift on Sat morning. Snapped this picture at 8:30am, but it snowed all day until 6pm. Wasn't able to get more pictures because it was dark, and had to scoot off to work.

Nice.
The hills get so squirrelly as soon as you get off the highway.
I checked out a couple of houses in the Cosby area a few years ago.
The one on South Ridge road was inaccessible without 4WD in the summer.
The name Ridge Road should have been a tip-off.
God's country. God drives a 4WD.

Where in northern MN if I may ask? Spent most of the first half of my life living in that country working as a logger on the iron range north of the town of Virginia. Gets mighty cold up there, I'll tell ya.:)

That area (near Newport) would definitely require 4WD. Very windy, zig-zag roads that have lots of guard rails to keep people from running off the mountains. Cosby is known for great fishing areas, and hunting as well. I believe I read something in the local paper that Mike Fisher (plays hockey for Nashville Predators and is married to Carry Underwood), and his friends went to Cosby for some fishing.

When I was in high school, we used to take our cars out on the lakes when conditions were right. It was fun to hit about 100 mph, turn the steering wheel, nail the brake pedal, & watch the islands twirl around.

Wow! 8 wraps of 26g stainless? That's pretty high resistance, compared to your usual builds isn't it?

It's .5 so yeah it's a departure from my norm of .3, but honestly, .5 in the O-16 is bangin' :headbang:

I preferred my previous build of 7 wraps 28g parallel which was closer to .3 but the issue I ran into is metallic-tasting hits on long draws. It baffled me and I concluded it was either too hot for this atty, or too big of a coil. I'm still baffled by that. But I don't think it had enough airflow for that build.

That only started happening after a few days, so it could have been a wicking issue, but when I inspected the wick it seemed fine so I just rebuilt like this and it's been a good vape.

I had to do similar on one of my Nuppins, when I set it up for my Li'l Pinch. I use 28g SS duals on the Nuppin. But I had to add a wrap to each coil, in order to bump up the resistance a little. It was just a bit too hot on long draws. I went from .34 ohms to about .42.

Those ground up shells are rough on tires.
Jup! they used to do that in Galveston when it did occasionally get icy instead of salt. Ground up shells and sand.
