Morning everyone! I've always used drill bits to measure air holes, the coilmaster jig is a great idea.
During the space race in the '60's, the US spent over $100,000 trying to develop a ball point pen that would work in zero gravity.

Trying out this rayon again today.
Test number 2. So far wicking looks good and better flavor than first time I tried it.

Mhmm flavor is getting better. If the longevity of rayon is truly better than cotton I may have found my best friend.
Rayon is definitely better flavor and wicking than cotton so far on trial 2

I don't like rayon as well as cotton. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why. I just don't. Every once in a while, I'll fool with it. But I prefer cotton; either Cotton Bacon or Native Wicks Platinum.

I have had a wick just plain get muddy tasting at work and have gone to the restroom with a bottle of water and rinsed everything out intact !
Gently let a paper towel soak up the water from the wick...squonk, let it rest just a minute, pick up the wick a bit with a pin and squonk again...brand new !

I have just gotten so used to cotton, that I can rewick in probably less than 2 minutes; cap off to cap back on.
I use rayon too but never really trimmed or thinned the tails. Whats the philosophy to that?
I still own that Space Pen. It was $20 back in the day!.....& I can write upside down because there is soooo many times I need to do that

Such when you are hanging upside down in your car after a crash, suspended by the seatbelt, yet just happen to have a pen and paper to hand, but can smell gasoline and see it pooling.

I've been using cotton bacon for over a year and rayon just killed cotton bacon for me.
That's it, but you might want to get the 500ft box, which will last a life time.
The 3lb box is good for 3-4 lifetimes.
