I have 2 russian 91% and love them more than my kayfun lite, lite + and 3.1 I have. The open draw is great. I have been using 2mm silica with a figure 8 and the flavor and vapor are stellar. I have to say where the coil is in the chamber and how far from the air hole it is does have an effect on flavor.

What kind of spacing between the air hole and the coil have you found best?

Im assuming it is similar to the immoralizer.
I have found a couple mm space to be optimal.

I put a 1/8 inch diameter screw driver in between the coil and air hole and either lift or push back down until the screwdriver has a little resistance to pull it back out. I also make sure the coil is perfectly centered with the chimney on both x and y axis. If the coil is to high it makes loud popping noise while firing. If too low it will be juicy (as in e-juice not atomizing properly, causing a sort of wet hit) and most likely cause a flooding issue.

Also if not building a microcoil but a standard silica and spacing coil I get the coil red and pinch the bottom of the coil slightly and leave the top of the coil spaced evenly. This makes it less likely to flood with thin e-juices and also heats up the coil faster.

Having issues with wicking bobas... I have my micro coil/cotton on my r91 and seems the wick cannot keep up with how thick my juice is. It's a .7 ohm of 26ga nichrome.

Have you tried the vertical coil yet? I'm vaping BB right now at 15W in a 28g 1-1.2 ohm vertical coil R91 with no issues. I tend to hover around 11-12W most of the time, though.

Rip Trippers' video on Youtube shows one way to build it on a KFL. He starts mounting it about 16 minutes in: Chimney Micro Coil Build In A Kayfun Lite - YouTube

I've seen bapgood post pictorials of his method which differs only in that he does NOT raise the coil off of the air hole and fills the chamber tube with wick. This is what I have in mine. One of bapgood's posts has a link to RiP Trippers' video, too.

I was so blown away by the improvement over the horizontal micro/cotton on my R91 that I replaced my 3 month coil on my KFL - and ordered a KFL+ last night!

I just got my Russian 91% from VT and notice it have a two tone color look to it. The two center steel tube are about 30% lighter. What happen to KEBO quality control?!!!

LOL! Mine is flawless, but they've had quality issues since it came out. Missing parts, un-threaded air holes, parts torqued too tight, and now uneven finish. I would still rate their quality near the top on a scale* of Chinese quality.

There is so little difference in price that I've decided to buy the KFL+ from a German manufacturer. It may not have the adjustable center pin, but intaste.de has insanely fast shipping.

* That scale should be manufactured in a different country.

that adjustable post not being on the kfl is an issue with me so i ordered the r91 instead. must say it came with NO issues at all. vapes perfectly. my only issue- i wish it you could select different finishes. perhaps down the road it might be offered. and a glass mid-section or entire glass tank would be nice.....

Thank you! I'm have to give that a try tonight. Tired of priming this sucker every other draw.

Hmmm... today at work I noticed that my vape was really anemic.. I checked my resistance (russian 91%) and my ohms were all over the place... 1.4Ω to as high as 5Ω. I figured one of my screws was loose. I had no way to get to it so I had to just wait till I got home. I got home, drained the juice and took it apart but everything looked fine inside..the screws were tight. I checked the ohms while it was apart and it read what it was supposed to. I put it all back together and filled it and now it's doing it again... resistance jumping all over the place.

I'm going to just put a new coil in it tonight and see if that solves it. I don't mind a problem as long as I can figure out what is causing the problem and fix it.. I hate having a problem and not knowing what is causing it

Some website has a preorder for a 91% v2, says its finish is stainless steel. My take on it is its unpainted.

I put a new coil in it even though the coil it had looked fine. Resistance jumping around usually means that something isn't attached snug enough.. maybe one of the wires wasn't under the screw well enough..dunno. I'm definitely not a fan of these tiny capture screws!

It is doing well now but it's banished to home use until it earns my trust again. :glare: Nothing worse than being at work with a misbehaving device and no way to fix it! I work in a hospital and I can't just go over to the sink and start taking my russian apart to trouble shoot! (Ok.. there ARE worse things but in the vape world, this is right up there at the top)

It's unpolished... a scotch brite pad will shine it up but the finish is beginning to grow on me.

The KFL happens to fit perfectly on my devices that do not have adjustable connections, but I can see where that may be hit or miss. I might scrub the finish off of my R91, but it doesn't really bother me.

I almost hate to mention it since you've already gone through all that work. Mine has that problem almost every time I refill it. I thought I loosened something up the first time it happened to me. But it turns out that the adjustable pin seems to turn some - when removing it, I suspect. Now I double check its position before putting it back on the ProVari. Sorry if that's obvious, but ...

So... I built a rip trippers style coil and wick. About 10 wraps of 26ga nichrome at I'm assuming around .7 ohms. It was great flavor and vape at first (with how the wick was primed before I put it together) but after five or so hits the flavor starts to fade and you can tell it's getting a little dry in there. Should I fill my whole chimney area with cotton? Switch to 28ga and raise my resistance? The couple times I've gotten great hits out of this I love the flavor bobas(first time I've ordered it) but I'm starting to lose hope...

Just a thought on the performance issues. It may have already been mentioned and you may have tried this but I had the same problem at first and someone on here said tighten the positive post. I thought I had but once I removed the little adjustable pin at the end and actually screw tightened the post itself the problem was solved and has never ocurred again. Before doing this it looked and felt tight. Good luck for me outside of this one issue none of my kayfuns or Russians have been flawless!

I was wondering if the pin was the culprit. I have to run it out quite a bit to get it to connect to the provari. Thanks for the replies guys!
