So... I built a rip trippers style coil and wick. About 10 wraps of 26ga nichrome at I'm assuming around .7 ohms. It was great flavor and vape at first (with how the wick was primed before I put it together) but after five or so hits the flavor starts to fade and you can tell it's getting a little dry in there. Should I fill my whole chimney area with cotton? Switch to 28ga and raise my resistance? The couple times I've gotten great hits out of this I love the flavor bobas(first time I've ordered it) but I'm starting to lose hope...

I haven't tried sub-ohm in this setup and don't have any 26g to test. Mine is 8 wraps of 28g at 1-1.2 ohms and it keeps up with me. I have the wick chamber filled with cotton up to the bottom of the threads.

I seem to recall vapdivr having the same problem with his vertical coil a couple of months ago in the KFL thread. When bapgood showed his build, vapdivr mentioned that he hadn't used the extra cotton. Boba's is pretty thick juice, so I think it might make the difference.

Have you tried the vertical coil yet? I'm vaping BB right now at 15W in a 28g 1-1.2 ohm vertical coil R91 with no issues. I tend to hover around 11-12W most of the time, though.

Rip Trippers' video on Youtube shows one way to build it on a KFL. He starts mounting it about 16 minutes in: Chimney Micro Coil Build In A Kayfun Lite - YouTube

I've seen bapgood post pictorials of his method which differs only in that he does NOT raise the coil off of the air hole and fills the chamber tube with wick. This is what I have in mine. One of bapgood's posts has a link to RiP Trippers' video, too.

I was so blown away by the improvement over the horizontal micro/cotton on my R91 that I replaced my 3 month coil on my KFL - and ordered a KFL+ last night!

I tried this this morning at my office, rather than engage in any actual work. WOW!

I thought the horizontal coil flavor was amazing. This method here....even better. Noticeably so. Vapor about the same, throat hit about the same, but the taste is astounding. Thanks for the link, and thanks to RiP Trippers!

Well, that's a bummer.

My new Russian 91% arrived and looks very good. Excellent quality build. But, the block the center post screws into and holds the positive terminal screw was not tapped for either the center post or the terminal screw. It's back in the hands of VK to get this right. I'll keep you posted.

I just bought a russian 91% last night at a local vape shop and am loving it! One question though:

If I leave it sitting for several hours there is a little flooding. It really isnt a big deal as it goes away after the first puff. Maybe I didnt use enough cotton?

BTW: My russian came with all kinds of extras and was complete. No problems here

I thought the micro/cotton was fantastic, then tried the vertical. I wasn't even able to say WOW! when I first tried it. I just looked like a speechless idiot with my eyes rolled out of focus, smacking my lips, and licking my palette. That was with Dragon's Fire which I preferred on a SS mesh genny over the horizontal coil R91. And I'm just finishing up my first tank of Pirate's Booty in this build - pure bliss.

Thanks to the inventors who create these ingenious devices, thanks to the tinkerers who love to fiddle with wicks & coils, and THANKS to ECF for bringing us all together!

What they'll think of next?

A fellow HHV man, eh?

I have Huntsman in my vertical micro now. Waiting on FedEx with KFL + number 2...

That second one will be filled either with Legend or Dragon's Fire. Not sure which...

EDIT:

Pirate's Booty in the IGO-T at the moment...

Yep. I've been mostly lurking in the HHV big thread forever with occasional de-lurk outbreaks. HHV Army is a great bunch.

My KFL+ should arrive today! I'm not leaving this place even if there's a fire - well, maybe just to protect the mail box. Both times I ordered from intaste.de, FEDEX called on the same day of shipping to notify me that a sig-required package will be delivered the next day. Don't know why they do that when it clearly takes TWICE as long to get here from Germany. A whole two days!

Arrrrgh! It's been sitting in a city in another state since 6:00AM - and that city is only two hours from here! That means I'll have to stay home all day tomorrow. But . . . we're supposed to go fishing tomorrow . . . hmm. Well, as they say, a bad day fishing beats a good day at work, so fishing I'll go.

Guess I can post a signed note on the door?

this is for those that ordered from vaportekusa. hows the quality? any issues ? mine should be here on monday and i'm wondering how they are... hopefully VT looked them over before shipping them, there seems to be quite a few quality control issues with the 91%...

I checked mine out thoroughly and washed it twice with liquid dish soap and very hot water. Wicked and coiled it up and it works great. A very nice vape. Air control is very good, and juice feed just right. Vape not as intense as a Genny or RDA but very very nice flavor is produced.

I think the most irksome part is having to unthread from the 510 all the time to properly fill it..

You can fill from the top, (my cap o-ring always pulls off on chimney now), but you can't load it to anything like 4ml that way: it wants to pour out the airhole if I try. Loading from the bottom lets you easily get 4ml in there w/o leaks.

thats good news, thx. it seems to be hit and miss with these as far as quality control goes. hope i'm one of the lucky ones too.
