I'm new to vaping and still smoke analog cigarettes, although I have cut down a lot. I started off with a 510 and now an eGo, vaping usually at 24mg. I'm wanting to move up to the big leagues with my first true mod and I think the Saber Touch is the answer, but I'm not sure if I should go with a 5V regulated or the VariVolt.

From the YouTube videos that I have seen, a lot people say that a 5V is the "sweet spot" but for me just starting out and going from an eGo, would I want to have the capability to start lower at 3.7 and increase after time?

I was looking for some feedback from experienced Saber users as to what they thought or preferred or if there is anything that I should take into consideration when trying to decide. Also, if there are any recommendations on different brands of batteries and chargers that would be great!

Thanks - Roy

There's the 20 (or is it 25) buck price difference. You can set the VV to 5V and never change it and it'd be exactly as if you owned the 5V version. Of course you can adjust the VV to other voltages. So if cost isn't an issue or not too big a deal get the VV and you can find what works best for you. This will be different for each juice you use.

Personally I just got mine today, with juice 1 flavor. Found I ended up with it set to 3.5V. But I'm an odd one and have not really cared for 5V+ vaping nor LR atomizers.

One thing that is nice about using a higher voltage mod, is you usually can reduce your nicotine level. You are vaping pretty high at 24mg right now... usually for the throat hit. With a higher voltage mod, you automatically get a stronger throat hit. I love 5v regulated, but then again, some juices taste much better at 4.5v. It's all really a personal type of thing that takes some experimenting. And just want to say, thank you for your interest in the Saber Touch.

I have the Saber Touch 5 Volt. It is wonderful. However, some juices aren't as good at that voltage. I am thinking of also getting the VariVolt jus to see what the voltage would be like somewhere between 5V and the 3,7V that most other PV'sgive you.
If I had to do it again, I would just go with the VariVolt.

I have all three 5 volt 3/6volt and the variable. I would go with the variable. 6volt was great but I tended to lose flavor. 3 volt is just too weak for me. Around 5 is really the sweet spot but with the variable you can adjust it too your personal taste. So with the sale right now I'd grab the variable! Can't beat the price for a custom voltage mod!

To tell you the truth, I've found since using my VV that I like most juices right between 4.5 and 4.7v. You get a great throat hit, and tons of vapor. But still, my goto mod is my 5v Regulated. I don't know why. But it is nice to fine tune your voltage to your juice!

Thanks everybody for your comments and advice! I think I'm convinced to go with the VV - it sounds like the best choice for me. Sir Lawrence, you'll see an order from me very soon.

I'm still confused over what batteries and chargers to get. I know the VV takes 2 - 16340 3.7v 880mAh or higher protected batteries (listed on the website), but I have never bought or used batteries like those before. Are they any brands that are more reliable or preferred? If I'm going to be changing the voltage, will that make a difference as to what batteries I buy? I'm asking because I would like to go ahead and order the batteries/charger so that I can use the VV as soon as it comes!

Also, can I use eGo cartomizers with the VV or should I buy some 510 cartomizers to use?

Thanks again everyone for all your help - Roy

P.S. Love the avatar, markimar ... or should I say Pats! I used to love watching Absolutely Fabulous. Too bad it had to end - it was the best British comedy!

Anything with 510 threads should fit. The eGo cartomizer needs to have its plastic shroud partly removed to fit. Not really sure there's much of a need to use the eGo Mega Cartomizer since there's now the Joye 510 cartomizer to use in its place.

Any 16340 battery should be fine. Ordering directly from China is cheapest but takes longest. Ditto on a charger, nothing fancy needed. I know Sir's put a link or at least the web site he uses for his batteries in the big thread in this subforum.

Here is a domestic source for battery and charger:
Protected Trustfire 16340/CR123 Lithium Ion Battery, 3.7v, 880mah $5.59 each
TrustFire TR-001 Lithium Ion Battery Charger $9.99

I buy from China:
DealExtreme: $4.70 TrustFire 16340 880mAh 3.7V Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries (2-Pack)
DealExtreme: $8.63 TrustFire TR-001 Multi-Purpose Lithium Battery Charger

No, thank you Sir Lawrence for the fast shipping and the beautiful Saber Touch. I got it yesterday (Nov. 19) and can't wait to use it - I'm still waiting for my batteries and charger. Ordered them a couple of weeks ago but haven't got them yet. As soon as I can use it I will let you know. In the videos and pictures it looked big but was pleased to find out that I can palm it! Thanks again -

Thanks bsoplinger for posting the information on the suppliers. Yeah for the price of one battery here in the States, you can get a 2 pack from China. It does take a long time to get however. I ordered my batteries and charger a couple of weeks ago with expedited shipping and I'm still waiting. And trying to figure out the Hong Kong Post info to track my package is crazy - if I'm reading it right, it is still in China! Chinese food doesn't take that long ... 10 minutes and it's ready!

BTW: I went ahead and got the protected batteries from DealExtreme: $5.40 TrustFire Protected 16340 880mAh 3.7V Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries (2-Pack). It was a few cents more but from what I've been reading, the protected batteries should be used.

Everybody should know AbFab and if they don't, they don't know what their missing!

OMG loved that show best one was when they went to Mexico and sold Saffron into slavery.I laughed so hard lol.
You know they have the whole series and the Christmas special on Netflix! You can't watch it on streaming but can get them on DVD.

Thanks everyone - you've all been a big help! Roy

I looked on Netflix and didn't see it! I used to have the full DVD set but lost it in our apt fire!
My favorite one was the trip to France! With the wine tasting and they were staying in the servant room instead of the château! Lol so frigging funny :)

Sorry to hear about the apartment fire - what a scary thing to happen. I hope you had insurance! If you have Netflix, here is the direct link to AbFab:

Re: China shipping. This time of year it can take a full month unfortuntely since there is so much extra leaving for Western xmas buyers.

Re: AbFab. Wonderful show. Always enjoyable. Got the whole thing here on DVD to rewatch whenever I want its that good.

Oh that totally sucks! I paid for the express shipping at $17. They shipped on Nov. 15th but I think it shows that it is still in China. I don't really want to have to wait a month to use my new Saber Touch.

In your original post, you had a link to Mad Vapes Protected Trustfire 16340/CR123 Lithium Ion Battery, 3.7v, 880mah. Have you ever dealt with them? If so, can you tell me if you like dealing with them? Do they have a good turn around time, stuff like that? I'm thinking that I will have to buy at least a couple of batteries and a charger from them in order to get started. I wish there was a place locally ... hmmm sounds like a new business venture! :)

Well if you (or anyone) could let me know about Mad Vapes, I would appreciate it. Thanks again - Roy
