Update on my puff time scienceing. It occurred to me that I have a fairly easy way to get some truly meaningful data thanks to escribe.
So, remember the whole "experimental bias" thing, and how I said I knew it affected my Boreas results? Well, now I know just how much. Last puff 3.79 s, mean 3.80 s, standard deviation 1.16 s. That's with a total of 88 puffs so far on this setup.

Perhaps more surprising to me is the Merlin TC results. Granted, only 12 puffs worth of data on this one, but keep in mind 3 of those were from the experiment. Last puff 3.77, mean 3.87, std dev a whopping 2.13 seconds!

So my certainty that I was taking 6-8 second puffs regardless of setup is somewhat shaken now. Granted this doesn't take into account suck time after releasing the button, but I really don't think I'd doing that for 2 seconds, certainly not for 4. So typical puff time for both of these setups appears to be a bit under 4 seconds.

Anyway, I'll put something more formal together for Fuzzy to analyze now that I know how to get good data. I'll have to ignore my squonk setups for the experiments, but I can maybe use a different RDA with the same build. Plan on a full week though before I provide results, as I will need time to collect data. Need to have a sufficient sample size to make sure the mean value is useful. Also, I'll try to do multiple builds in multiple attys.

Planned info to report includes the puff data from escribe, wire gage and type, coil dia, resistance, # of wraps, wattage, and which atty I was using. That last one is only marginally useful but figure I should include it.

If I keep going missing it's because I have 4 kids and it's the 6 weeks holiday and I'm getting stuff sorted for the flight..

Jup, I always liked goin to the grocery store in the middle of the night. The only bad part was, I had to use a scooter, and the stockers always put the pallets in the middle of the aisles and you couldn't get a scooter past it. But the good part was, there were always stockers around to help ya get stuff, and ya didn't have to deal with a crowd of people

No, and generally I don't mention what company because I am ashamed of them after having 23,000 employees, they moved all their manufacturing to India and China and laid off all but a few engineers and admin who might still be lurking in Beaverton, Orygun. But I'll 'fess up here. I was an engineering manager at a remote experimental division of Tektronix. We relocated our division to try out being independent of the parent facilities, with no requirements to use corporate functions or rules, so I went over there as Technical Publications Manager, then up the ladder (I did a total of 20 years with Tek). At our facility in Redmond (Orygun, not Washington), each of us took on far more responsibilities than someone with the same title would have done in the parent facility in Beaverton. Our division designed and built Fiber Optic and Metallic Time Domain Reflectometers (tools to help telephone companies locate faults in buried cables miles from the test points). I wanted to simplify everything, so I had to get involved with manufacturing and marketing and sales as well as engineering, to ensure the direction I was moving would be acceptable and beneficial to all -- especially the customers.

I know Tektronix. I remember having some test equipment from you folks. That was another sort of HP when it started up. Nice that you had a separate small division so you could cover several areas, far more interesting than being boxed in by large company job assignments.

    Vape gear shopping haha

No one ever predicted that the greatest benefit the internet brought to civilization was 24 hour shopping in a bath robe.

Oh, the joys of traveling with the whole flock:D

Good luck with that! Wait until it's time to finally pack. That alone will add 2 years onto your age.

Haha, I remember going to the Dominican, 9 hour flight, they all did remarkably well, they are used to traveling in the holidays and now I have Emma who is so organized, my children are very well behaved and easy to control. Nothing worse than kids running around an airport and the parent says, come here, Oliver, come here and the kid just ignoring her.

Not to go off topic to much, I think the hardest part has been getting all my vape gear ready haha, I still have one last setup coming next week that should be pretty cool..

So, a DL update. My couple of DIY trials were a little frustrating, getting the right amount of flavoring without under or overshooting will take a few more trials. But, as who wants a new tank to sit unused and unloved, I filled my Crius up with some 12 mg juice. Got to be better than 24, right?

It was better! So much better I took 2 hits in a row off it, and am now as nic toxic as I was with 24. I'll lay down for a while and put this foolish behavior to the side until I can get a decent tasting 6 mg juice later today.

If you need help with your DIY juice then your in the right place, depending on what you like......custard type vapes? we have some good recipes, @Lannie is the better half of the mixing team, she can help also, our classic Raspberry Donut is one of them, or the Custard Creams, we mix pretty high, 20 - 30% flavoring. If you don't mind shipping from over the pond I can point you to the best custard juice in the world, you buy the complete recipe in one bottle and just mix it at the percentage on their website.
Lots of options here, also, depending on your build 6mg may still be too much.....

Talking of builds, the Crius Plus is going to suffer the same way as the Griffin 25 does, no flavor, I've been vaping like this long enough to know that tank will have way to much airflow, the airflow holes under the coils are too big, to get flavor you would have to throw in some parallel's or low resistance Claptons at at a much higher wattage. This is where the likes of the Boreas and Supreme shine, yes they have massive airflow but the way the they are designed gives you great flavor, even so, you will be hard pushed to beat the Limitless, that's and RTA with a tank.
For the Crius I think a single coil will work great and plugging the other side should reduce the airflow and you won't need high wattage so you can keep the top airflow closed. I'll be throwing in the exact same build I have in the Serpent Mini, 6 wrap Clapton but because of the larger tank I will probably vape it 10 watts higher..

See how it goes. I'll admit I expected to lose a lot of flavor with all the airflow. I mostly use a tobacco flavor, right now on a Ry4 kick, and it tasted very good. Not as good as the Merlin, but again, very good. Even with the dual coil "let's try to kill ourselves" nic overdose, I was still noting decent flavor even as my vision narrowed and dimmed.

I have no decent frame of reference as this is the first tank with a dual coil higher wattage setup I've experienced, but I was expecting a more "dilute" flavor experience with lots of cloud. I'll see as it progresses, but I will be interested in your opinion after some you try it. Has it arrived, or are you still expecting it?

Oh, and I believe you mentioned earlier you got that four coil optional deck as well. That should be a story worth sharing.

I've watched a few reviews on it and read some, and basically what I'm getting (once I filter out the ones that seem too much like "I got this tank free for review purposes so I am going to rave about it") is better flavor than the Griffin 25, but still a cloud chasing tank and not a flavor chasing tank. Haven't yet found one where someone talks specifically about single coil builds, but my limited experience with using those blockers to turn a dual coil atty into a single coil atty is meh. Single coil in my Mutation X v4 mini was not as good as dual coil. Same with the full size.

Other than rapid changes of altitude, the only time I've ever had leaks have been going from cool or A/C into really hot ambient temps. But if you can just remember to chain vape when making the temp change... ;)

No problem there! I'm good at chain-vaping. ;)

I use the single coil block on my Bellus, and it works quite nicely for tootling and flavor. It's also a smaller tank with a way smaller chimney.

So, another update on this saga. Decided to keep it simple. Just a nice 70VG/30PG 6 mg nic Ry4. Hard to mess up, right? Well, I still need to figure out how much Ry4 to use from Flavor Arts, so it's still not quite right, but certainly tolerable. Some DL on the Crius at 30W and really good! Can't tell if the flavor is muted because of too little in the mix, the tank itself, or no steeping time at all. Regardless, the 6 mg is pretty good like this. I need to play around with the wattage (Kanthal build) but I do have all this cloudy stuff floating around me. Hopefully the AC will dissipate this before the smoke detector goes off.
