Oh great! Something else to get totaled.

I do know I'm gonna mix up some 3 mg for this one. After my last DL nic overdose, I'm afraid to even try 6 mg in this tank.
Some hints:

For high power coils, keep close to a 2:1 ratio if width to ID. Eg. A 6mm wide coil needs ~3mm ID to have enough juice capacity in the wick inside the coil.

The limitless needs ~3mm coils so you'll have enough cotton to fill the holes down to the tank.

Great, now I gotta start measuring the width of my coils to make sure I'm following the Boden Ratio.

I don't have anything to measure mms (and wouldn't be able to see it if I did) lol So bout how wide would a 28g 8 wrap coil be pleasey please?

    Assuming contact coils.

    28ga is 0.32mm wide, so 0.32 X 8 = 2.56mm

This'll help AWG to mm/mm2 | Gauge to mm conversion

Now you can go under the 2:1 ratio. Eg. A 3mm ID that is 3mm wide works fine. But if you make a 8mm wide coil with a 2mm ID you'll burn the wick in half because the middle will dry out.

Ahhh, so it's a "not to exceed" type thing. And I can prolly eyeball it (get it debs? eyeball?) fairly closely, I work in mm every day at work. But I'll keep that conversion chart in mind, I can see it being useful.

well see.......I wuz brilliant and didn't know it, that's what I've been using......2.5mm ID!

    (get it debs? eyeball?)
let you slide on the other thread.......... and you really deserved this for that.......but now yur just pushin it! hehehe

Yeah, it's just an eyeball guide for people playing with high power for the first time.

First time I designed a high power coil for 100W+ it was 8mm wide but only 2.5mm ID. After about 15 puffs the wick fell out because the middle was burnt in half.

Oh yea, hot prime the coils. Drop some juice on the coil itself then hit the power button for a short time until the juice gets sucked into the wick underneath the coil. Repeat 3-4 times.

I really hope I can remember to tell a friend this..........she does burn her wicks up sometimes. I bet this is why. We'll have to figger it for her and tell her what to do, cuz she's way worse than me even about doin stuff like that. But if anyone thinks of it...... remind me in a day or so and ask if I told Kay about this......and actually probably Susan too. She's new to building and did that at least once.

Uh, don't have to measure anything. Using Boden's Coil Law, width not to exceed twice the ID.

Your mandrel, that you wind on, is obviously the ID. So the coil should not be more that twice that.

Easy, no math, no law breaking :)

Another reason is if the coil is too high off the deck and the coil is too small. Problem is there isn't enough cotton to lift the juice quickly enough to keep the coil fed.

If you are math averse stop reading.

    No seriously, turn back now!

I warned ya... But ya didn't listen...

    Here's a little rule I follow: Don't go over 1W per 1mm^2

Math is easy. Example coil of 4mm ID X 8mm wide.

    To calculate area:
    ID X Pi (3.14159) = circumference
    Circumference X Width = Area
    So 4mm X 3.14159 = 12.566
    12.566mm X 8mm = 100.53mm^2

That would be a max 100W coil.

I'm sure this is simple, but do me a favor and tell me again tomorrow when I've had some sleep, I can barely see right now . lol

Shoulda' put that in a spoiler, Boden, so's not to scare Deb off!
Deb listened and scrolled past it with her eyes closed!

    Dain Bramage now.
is that from sumpthin? My ex always said that, and got me sayin it Sounds like monty python or sumpthin

Uh, but could anyone tell? ;)
lmao!! Seriously though, I kinda do. Had a closed head injury or TBI they call it now in 99. That's why I don't remember stuff and sometimes I look at sumpthin and my brain just sorta seizes up and I can't comprehend something simple even. That doesn't happen all the time, but I do always forget stuff! I'm not really an idiot, I just play one on ECF hehehe

    Spoonerism
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A spoonerism is an error in speech or deliberate play on words in which corresponding consonants, vowels, or morphemes are switched (see metathesis) between two words in a phrase.[1][2]

An example is saying "The Lord is a shoving leopard" instead of "The Lord is a loving shepherd." While spoonerisms are commonly heard as slips of the tongue resulting from unintentionally getting one's words in a tangle, they can also be used intentionally as a play on words.

I do this a lot! Not intentionally it just happens. Drives me nuts.
