I was very addicted to cigarettes but never to nic in vaping, it has always baffled me how some need their liquid nic so much when I have no withdrawal effects at all. It was only when the nic was combined with the other toxins that It became addictive. Maybe it's all in the mind, I dunno but there is obviously a reason why some can't do without it and some can.![]()
Maybe it's some kind of chemical reaction or something. All I know is when I don't have my nic, I WANT IT. I can vape zero nic instead, and I did that for about a week, but it was horrible. I got really badly depressed (first time in my life, I think), and didn't have the motivation to move my behind off the couch to do the work that needs to be done around here. When I realized it was the dreaded condition, "Lackonic," (HEY, I wonder if that's where the word laconic comes from - LOL!), I got back on the nic and recovered completely in a day or so. But I felt very baaaad, and I don't wanna go back there.
I know I'm not getting all those other chemicals now that I was when I smoked, so I can't explain it, but it's a real thing.
The other thing we deal with here at Casa de Cooler is my wife is addicted to nicotine now.
In just over a year she's gone from a never smoker to a stone cold vape junkie. Slip her some 0mg or even cut her juice and she'll cut my throat.
I've been dealing with nicotine addiction for decades so I'm used to it but seeing how powerful the addiction is in somebody who never smoked is,............is,............. I don't know. They say the nicotine itself doesn't cause much harm but still it makes ya wonder.
So I guess that puts the lie to the statement that nic by itself isn't addictive. I had read that laboratory mice who were allowed to "self-medicate" with nic after they'd been given a certain amount for a while, declined to imbibe, and so the assumption was that it wasn't actually addictive. Well, maybe it isn't, to mice. Maybe mice are different from people. Or maybe they didn't have enough. Or for long enough. And everyone is different.
I'm just glad I was able to get off cigarettes with plain ol' nic juice. I was honestly worried I'd have to go the WTA route when I first started reading about vaping. I mean, I was hard-core, and for quitting to have been this easy... still amazes me.
