They say your taste buds will change.... Caution

Greetings,

Stopped Somking : Not Applicable

For people like me (and I KNOW there are many here).... searching for the right e-liquid is daunting, to say the least.
Straight to the point ! ! They say your tastes (or taste buds) will change as if automatically the word 'change' equates to "improve."

In my opinion, the only reason WHY my taste buds are changing ...is because I'm pretty much FLOODING my mouth with so many D4MN flavors.... I can't figure out what's going on.
Hence.... I still smoke cigarettes.

Here's the Caution part of my post :

They say vaping is cheaper ? ? Seriously ! ! !
Until you can find the flavor (e-Liquid) that you like... SURE, it can be cheaper.
Until you find the right MOD,.... SURE, it can be cheaper.
BUT.... upon your switching phase..... SAVE UP LOTS OF MONEY ! !
Even sample packs aren't cheap. (but you already found that out yourself, hopefully)

Yah, I'm venting.... **sigh**

Sincerely Yours,

Frustrated NOOB

You can always try your hand at DIY. I was overwhelmed, like most when first starting up. After trying about 10 different juices from multiple vendors, all with rave reviews, and discovering I only truly liked 1 of them, I decided to go the DIY route. Sure it is another up front cost like everything else will be with vaping, but with that same amount of money I dumped into those first ten bottles of juice, I got 500mL of base, 120mL of 100mg nic, and roughly 20 flavor extracts. All courtesy of wizardlabs for under $60. Add that to the cost of my vamo, batteries, chargers, DIY mixing supplies, a few ego backups, and numerous delivery devices which is roughly at $150 to date. I have been vaping for almost 5 months now, with enough supplies to go another 5 easily for under $300, which includes all of my failures in the beginning. Mind you that was my budget for less than two months of cigs.

This is all coming from a PAD smoker for the past 12 years, who also started off just as just as much of a noob as you are 5 months ago. Vaping, like most things is life, will really only give back what you are willing to put in. I know it can all be extremely overwhelming at first, but ultimately the freedom from the stinkies is worth it. I know it's more hassle than just lighting up a ...., but I feel the hour I spend each week mixing my supplies, and recoiling/wicking my tanks, far outweighs my reliance on analogs.

Good luck with your endeavors, I'm rooting for you!

:)

It can be less expensive.
It can let your taste buds recover (after you quit smoking)

but you're correct. There's a learning curve and initial expense.

I'd suggest a crawl->walk->run approach and using the savings to get over the learning curve, and buying time to do more research on all the "higher" options. Others jump right in with both feet and go strait to advanced stuff. Kinda depends on comfort levels and cash flow. But remember, going through nic withdrawal while all that is going on can be a challenge! ;)

One suggestion: The DIY section contains a lot of information about making your own e-juice. Although it may seem complex due to all the "advanced" posting, it can be really quite simple. And it saves a ton of $$$$$ on juice. Also depends on how picky you are about juice flavors. I pretty much started with DIY.... the tinkering kept me busy while going through the cig withdrawal. YMMV.

Take it easy. Keep it as simple as possible to start. Hang in there and don't give up!

EDIT: Crap. ^^^ beat me to it. lol. I must type too slow....;)

Yep.

I spent $43 last month. Nothing this month. Looking to spend, oh, $15 or so at MBV next month. Thinking about $25 at Wizard Labs. Depends. Probably not. May do Wizard around September.

What you do is go here: DIY Supplies, get a bottle or two of unflavored nic juice, some little plastic bottles if you need, then go here: Flavors, get some basic, straightforward flavors (like I like banana and blueberry myself), maybe some cheap "hypo" things from the Walgreens to measure and squirt juices into bottles, then mix stuff yourself.

I don't buy premade anymore. I have to save money on everything right now. If things improve, I'll probably buy some more "boutique" liquids I like. For now, cheap is the rule.

I am not kidding. My vaping expense for the month of July was zero dollars and zero cents. I stocked up on plain nic juice and have, right now, two full bottles and one third of a bottle. I don't have to buy anything next month. I just want my banana flavor back. I like it.

I have given one juice away because I just couldn't stand it (blueberry tobacco) and threw one away (cherry tobacco tasted like bad cough syrup to me). I have a 30 ml of vanilla and some fruit flavors that I can use to doctor liquids that I just don't really like that much. I mix a lot of the juices together just for the heck of it and then can't remember what I did when I come up with something that I really like. Guess I am saying that I don't waste money on juices. I find ways to enjoy them! I still really like the RY4 juices that I have even though they all taste different.

Taste buds become more responsive when you quit smoking. You are still smoking so it will not work the same as if you had quit. I could be saving money (heck, maybe I really am by now) but I keep reading this forum and trying new things. I also can't pass up a good sale! Thus, more juice in the mail!

I did a few searches and didn't find any vape stores in Kingman. There may be some, but I couldn't find them for you. Too bad, but if you are willing to take a road trip there are quite a few in the state. The stores here will either offer to let you taste with a drip system or some even have clearos set up with every flavor they sell. The hand you a "friend tip" and you just walk around trying everything that looks any good! That was fun but a bit overwhelming for the taste buds after about 5 flavors. I did find a tobacco flavor that I liked so it was not time wasted.

IMHO, it is well worth the effort/time to work with this alternative to smoking. Once you find flavors, PVs that you like you can go back to online ordering!

I smoked for about 46 years and have (almost) effortlessly quit with the aid of vaping. I haven't smoked since the first week I vaped. I can hope you find a pleasurable way to enjoy this hobby as well. It has been a life saver for me!

Bottom line for me is......

1. I feel better
2. I breath better
3. I have started walking
4. with the cost of cigarettes, no way I am spending more
5. the "learning curve" is what makes vaping so much fun
6. met some really nice people on this forum

I could list a bunch more perks to the vaping adventure but you probably get the point. Most things that are healthier or better.... usually cost more. But like a lot of people, they find ways to make it less expensive. DIY is the way to go. Just my :2c:

Making your own juice is SOOO cheap.

It really can be. I'm saving a truck load.

Just found out (here on ECF of course :) ), Wizard Labs has way better prices on plain nic juice. A little over $20 for half a liter. If I get it PG based, they've got half a liter of VG for around $10. That'd be $30 for a liter of 50/50. That could last me around nine months or something like that...

When I first stopped smoking and went to vaping everything tasted wonderful. Then about a 1 -1 1/2 wks later my taste was gone. Thought my wick was bad and changed that...nothing . So I searched around and found out this is a common occurrence...apparently called "Vapor's Tongue". Now after about another week of not tasting anything it's starting to come back, and cigarettes are starting to taste awful and make me a little sick. If you stick with it I think you'll find the same thing will happen. And even though I have just got into this, I have already saved about $200 from not buying cigs. Good luck to you.

meh, you spelled n00b wrong :p

try mount baker vapor. dirt cheep, fast service, but backy flavors need work and mucho steeping.

bought dulce de leche on a whim. my favorite at the moment, but my root beer freebie is closing in.

of course, my favorite is two peas in a pod No 8, but i'm determined not to spend that much on juice.

i live in Washington, sometimes my MBV are here the next day! :vapor:

erm, 3 down

First six months outrageously expensive - cigalikes x5, 510 almost cigalike x4, ego x4, Provari x2 Juce x bout 700 mils. YIKES, worse than smoking. But after that, still have the provari, rebuild parts for tanks 60.00 per year, juice 150.00 per year (in DIY supplies. Total 210 per YEAR, now figure even cheapo analogs at 40 per carton and 1 carton per week that's 2080.00 per year - over 10 times the cost of vaping for me so, yes vaping is much less costly, just the cost comes early and in big lumps.

Vaper's tongue is pretty common, most say changing flavors and staying well hydrated helps prevent or stop it and, I agree. Mouth rinses, eating pallet cleansing foods, spicy foods and, sour driks or candies have also been reported to help. No big deal, it doesn't happen often and, if it does, after the first time, you will know what works to stop it for you.

For the wife and I has been cheaper even though we went a little over board. Here is what we have spend: 2 provari with all the gadgets around $500.00, initial starter kit for both of us $130.00, juices: 100.00. We have been free of analogs for almost 2 months and look at my banner, I saved over $800.00 so far and I figure that my wife saved $500.00=$1,300.00 minus $730.00 in purchases= $570.00 ahead and not to mentioned the enormous amount of analogs we did not smoke.

I just started 2 weeks ago. I notice sometimes a flavor I like tastes mediocre and later in the day it tastes fantastic. When it starts tasting weird I switch to a different tank with different fluid for a bit. I also switch between my clearomizer and the cartomizer for different taste of same liquid. I also have one battery with variable voltage and that helps a lot. Drinking lots of water and ice tea too.
