thinking about going subtank

I've been vaping for close to 3 years. I have been using a protank 2 for the last 2 years and a VTR for the last 1 1/2 years. I really like the easy to use factor of just changing coil heads and wash the tank occasionally.
I don't really want to get into rebuilding heads and such. Lately my VTR is starting to give me issues and it's time to purchase some new hardware.

I've been out of the loop for awhile and now I see these Kanger subtanks which has sparked my interest.
I've made it down to 6mg and sometimes 3mg or 0mg but I really miss the throat hit so I keep going back up to 6mg. I see where the subtanks say they offer a stronger TH with lower nicotine.

Can the subtank mini be a low maintenance item like what I'm use to with the protank 2?

Also what's a good mod to use since I need to purchase another anyway? I really like the side by side of the VTR since it fits into pockets easy and protects the tanks.

I would like to add to this discussion since I am also new to this, and I have performed a Search with little results.

Can the Subtank Mini be used with 70 PG/30 VG e-liquids. I primarily use this ratio with 50 PG/50 VG as a Max. I am unable to do High VG liquids.

Thinking of using the 1.2 Ohm - Horizontal Coil Head.

Have a look at the Subox Starter Kit, I think it would be ideal and no, pretty maintenance free, the new vertical coils are much better and you have the option of the rba deck..They look cool too.. Its a good way to get into sub ohm. You could also buy the Subtank Mini v2 separate and pair it with a coolfire 4, awesome setup !

Yes, with the 1.2 ohm you should be ok with that ratio, although for mouth to lung and high PG the 1.5ohm coil would suit better..

I'm a mouth to lung kinda guy with my mini protank 2's and Kayfuns. The subtank is a lung hitter tank, and IMO sacrifices flavor to give those clouds of vapor. It's very popular though, and I'm kind of in the minority on this.

I normally vape 12mg nicotine, but I use my 6mg liquid with the subtank. It can be a juice guzzler if you keep the airflow wide open, and can make you light headed with higher nicotine levels.

It's up to you if you want to want 3mg or 6mg, but I'd recommend going the lower of the two. Any mod that can get up to 30 watts should be fine for the subtank. I think people usually vape it anywhere between 13 and 22 watts. If you're going to use the 1.2ohm coil you'll probably be keeping it under 20 watts.

Not really. The new subtanks (the black or white ones) have tiny holes in the smallest airflow setting and are perfect for mouth to lung. I'm a Tootle Puffer through and through and I use them daily on my Provari 3! I have the RBA set up with a 1.2 ohm coil 28g 5 wraps around a 2mm screwdriver. Vaping at a cool 4.2 volts! Perfect!

I have the older subtank that i got around March. The flavor was so disappointing that I used it once or twice then put it away for a few months. Right now I'm tinkering with it trying to get some decent flavor. I've closed off the single airhole to about a half airhole, and the flavor is somewhat better, but nowhere close to what I get with my kayfun.

I don't think I want to spend any more money on subtanks, but I did just order the upgraded RBA section and should have it sometime this week. We'll see, like I said before, I appear to be in the minority with my displeasure over the subtank flavor. Definitely some big vapor though if that's what you're looking for.

I'm going to run past the local B&M today and get a feel for these in person. I'm currently thinking the Istick30w or the Kbox starter kit. I'm more of mouth to lung type but could go the other way as well. One of biggest concerns is the size of the box. Seems like both the kbox and Itaste30 won't be much taller than my VTR and hopefully weigh less...this VTR is a tank. I figure with either one of the boxes if I don't like the subohm game I can either use the higher ohm coils or go back to my protank.

Regarding subohm my current 18650 that I'm using Panasonic NCR18650PF, I'm not sure if this battery is good for subohm. The description on Amazon where I purchased it says it a 10amp draw max. Do I need a bettery battery?

The iStick is the smallest box style mod on the market right now. It's so tiny that I was at a bbq and someone grabbed it thinking it was a lighter. The iStick also comes with it's own battery so you wouldn't have to worry about that. I just picked up the 40w istick for 27.75 from Rocky Mountain Vapor after 25% off coupon. The Kbox battery wasn't a consideration for me because it doesn't have a spring loaded firing pin. I ran into so many problems with that while using my MVP2 and iStick 20w that I would never buy another mod without one again.

I purchased the subtank mini and istick 30w. I must say WOW I've never had a vape experience like this. I can only take about a 3 second hit where I'm use to a 10 second it with my old setup. It is a very warm/hot hit and a large throat hit. For now I'm using hangsen peppermint 6mg and it's pretty harsh.
I have some 0mg I'll mix in to decrease the harshness. There is also a lot more flavor. I think I'll need to go back and order some more liquid from HHV.

So far I think I'm going to like this once I get use to it and it is so much lighter than the VTR!

Is subohming usually this warm and strong of hit?

The subtank mini always hits a little hot for some reason. I traded my subtank mini for an aspire triton but I couldn't hit my subtank mini when I had it at anything over 17 watts on the .5 coils or it would just be burn my lip hot on the drip tip. I actually had to buy a vented drip tip to disperse the heat. Some some people like a warmer vape but I found I wasn't one of them I like mine a little on the cooler side

There is also the next level to think about too, Im not saying you should start off with this but with the likes of the Starre tank and the Crown and Herakles, those tanks make the Subtank Mini seem tame and going back to the Subtank it has way less flavour..Just worth a mention. Those Starre and Crown coils can last close to a month, awesome coils..your going into higher wattage though and more powerful box mods..
In saying that, a good build on the Subtank Mini rba can give any tank a run for its money..and flavour.

I would try going down to 3mg nic and see if that helps the harshness. Also do some experimenting with the airflow adjustments and find what you like. I was pretty much a mouth to lung guy until I got my Atlantis and now I'm a lung hitter and like lots of airflow.
Since you got the Subtank mini you should check out YouTube for videos of how to set up the rba and all.
