Thinking about sub ohm

Hey guys!

So I've been doing micro coils for quite some time now. My current set up is an itaste vv v3.0 with an IGO-L. In my IGO, I have a cotton build with 10 wraps of 28g kanthal coming out to 1.5 ohms. To me, this is pretty good. However, I notice the coils take a little long to heat up, and yes, I know that is due to the thicker wire, and it is KILLING my poor little battery. Usually by the time the coils have heated up, I have hit my 10 second cut off on my itaste. So that leads me into my question--I have a random Bombshell mod that I bought around a year or two ago that has just been collecting dust. I was thinking about buying a Sony 30 amp battery to throw in there and start to get into sub ohm coils so I could get the "full effect." If you're familiar with the Bombshell, you know that it does not have the capability to have Kick put into it. So if I were to buy a Sony 30 amp to drop down in there, would I be losing anything by not having a Kick to put in there, or should I be okay? Im just trying to avoid dropping more money on a mod and trying to utilize what I already have. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone. :)

The kick will turn the mod into a VW device. That's great because it gives you all the typical safety protections that regulated mods have plus the power stays constant through battery discharge. It will however limit your power output to around 15 watts, depending on which kick you buy. I don't use one, so I'll leave it to you to research that.

So with no kick or fuse in the system you have no built in safety features to help you stay safe. It's all up to you. You need to be using IMR or hybrid Li-ion batteries, not ICR Li-ion (typically protected, but not always) so they do not burn or explode if shorted. The Sony 30A is great. I have both the VTC3 and VTC4. I suggest you get the VTC4.

You also need to have a digital multi meter and use it to check battery voltage to make sure you do not use the battery too long. I never go below 3.6 volts. Below about 2.5V and the battery can be toast. And obviously you do not want to short the battery or it will heat up and can vent.

You will also have to deal with the battery power reducing through its discharge while you're using it. I set up my attys so I get a slightly hot vape at 4.2 volts, a perfect vape at 3.8V and slightly cool at 3.6V. Voltage will go down to 3.9V fast and spend most of the time between 3.7 and 3.6.

You can also look into a fuse like this one. It is resettable which is nice. I think it is good up to about 5 amps, so you are limited to about 0.9 ohms minimum or it will trip. I think there are other fuses that rate higher. You just need to make sure it will fit in the Bombshell.

Hope this helps. Vape safe :thumb:
