Thinking of backtracking. Simpler times, simpler mods

I've been vaping for about 3 years now. Around the house I've got a couple tfv4s, a sigelei 150, a fuchai 200, a subox kit, along with a couple drippers collecting dust because I lost interest. I bought my subox kit because it was smaller than my sigelei and the tank is my go to all the time. Lately I've been thinking about going back to something simpler. We just picked up the ego aio for my wife (her subox kit finally took a dump after like a year and a half) and I was amazed at the simple design and the way it performs. Am I totally losing my mind to want to go back to a small pen based mod as opposed to a box? And if I'm not, do you guys have any suggestions on a small and moderately simple mod to look at next?

Nope. I find myself in the same boat. I'm tired of rebuilding stuff. Don't think I'll be going back to an eGo Twist and Vivi Nova clearos, but the new crop of pod mods have definitely caught my eye and I'll be testing them out after the first of the year.

Lots of decent small stuff out there. Pods are one option. Along the AIO path there's stuff like the Hohm Skillet, Smok Brit One, Ijust S(?). Nothing wrong with going simple. If it's satisfying and comfortable to use, stay with it. Not everything has to be a combination 300W temp control mod that can charge your phone and has a built in MP3 player and a headphone jack.

You lost your damn mind! But that is not much of a surprise for having multiple TFV4's 1 and done that was junk!

I am a fan of the istick Pico and CV eVic VTC Mini.

Would not recommend a pen style mod for two reasons.

Short battery life
Most pen style mods wont fire below 1.2 ohms.

I've always been a fan of the simpler vape. When I stocked up, it wasn't on TC devices or anything that required pre-built heads. It's all kayfuns, simple drippers and mech mods for me. There's a comfort in knowing that most of my long term devices are too stupid to break. :D
Agree. I too use rebuildables because they are simple and future proof. "Too stupid to break" is an excellent way to describe them. I usually get an extra tank and a bag of o-rings as well so the atty will be of use for a long time. My favorites are clearly the simple ones as well and if I keep building and wicking in a fairly consistent manner I can do it in a few minutes. Really not a hassle to do that once a week and I find the experience way less of a mess than how I remember ready-mades.

It's not crazy to look for simplicity though. My favorite combo is a Hurricane on a simple, old dicodes tube mod. I build and wick in no time and there ain't even a juice control to think about. It has a battery and watt up and down. Period. It's quality of life for me.

I could never go back. I get much joy of building my own coils, and it kinda reminds me of the steam engine I played with as a little boy.

I've found myself not so much going back to clearos, but using single coil rta's at lower wattages. I've got a boatload of dual coil attys that I ran at 40+. I bought a Kayfun 5 clone and really enjoyed it. Now I have three along with a Squape Dream, Taifun G III, Merlin...and find myself using these more and more. It's a nice vape for me @ 25-30 watts...and the battery life on my dual battery mods is great!!!!

Compared to stopping at a gas station and picking up a pack of smokes, we sure have gotten complicated over the years. Like @retired1 I won't be going back to Vivi Novas - I never found something preferable to move forward to!

I like the simplicity of washing out my tank once a week, replacing a coil every three weeks or so and changing the battery every day. Virtually fiddle free and my wife is cross trained should I become feeble or even lazier.:D

Different strokes for different folks!

It's getting to the point to where I'm seriously considering switching to unflavored e-liquid as a means to simplify things even further. This will result in longer coil/wick life which means less fiddling.

While I don't begrudge anyone looking at vaping as a "hobby", personally, I'm tired of having to set aside time for making e-liquid, rebuilding, etc.

I make unflavored in 100 ml batches, the math is easy and the job is done in minutes. If I like a little flavor, I will add one small drop of flavor to the REO bottle. I am back to single coils on an RM2. RXW and stainless means building every couple of months, unflavored means less frequent dry burns. I have lost the "hobby" aspect and, now, I am actually saving all that money I thought that I would save when I started vaping.
PS: I build to 1.3 or 1.4 Ohms, I like it and it works for me.

I think many of us have gone through or are in the hobbyist phase, and it certainly has been interesting and helped put smoking behind me. My main hobby now is spending some time here on ECF sharing ideas and helping where I can and cranking out a 375ml batch of a light mint/menthol once a month for my wife and I. We pull out a wild set of flavors once in a while for fun with a couple drinks, but settling into lightly flavored liquid has made maintenance minimal.

I'm glad that so many different branches of the vaping tree developed as it accommodates such a wide variety of styles and needs and it has been fun trying them out. I'm sure this variety has kept more people off of cigarettes than if only an Ego and clearo was available. Simplicity, availability and savings have become what it's boiled down to for us now that we found our sweet spots.
