Thinning Humco VG?

Hello DIY'ers.

I have made a couple test DIY batches and my Humco VG and the resulting mixes seems way too thick to me.

I often see people who use this VG mention thinning it with Distilled water, but I don't recall ever seeing anyone mention how much water they use.

I have a fresh, still sealed bottle that I would like to go ahead and add distilled water to, so if anyone could tell me how much I should add, that would be awesome.

Sorry to say, I did search first before posting, but I didn't find the info.

I have thinned down my VG by as much as 15% with good results. Depends on the brand. Some brands are thin to begin with. mount baker vapor has an option that contains 30% water. I have tried it and actually like it. Hope that helps.

I currently mix at 20% (H20 + saline) and this works well for me. Different VG's have difference viscosity, so test first. And make sure your tanks, etc. are working well, e.g. wicking and not leaking.

Adding to the mix at mix time is good advice imo, and to take it one step further, I'd say don't add until use time if your mix is going to have a shelf life longer that a couple of weeks. Although you're adding distilled water, the shelf life of your mix is going to be decreased, although I admit I don't know by how much.

I usually don't have more than 7 or 8 different mixes kicking around in a drawer at any given time, but some of them can be 50ml bottles. Sometimes a 10ml bottle can get ignored for longer than I intended because I'm vaping away on a 50ml bottle.

I will be mixing 50ml bottles once I get my mix where I want it.

I did another test mix last night without adding any distilled water and it is nearly where I want it. Simple single flavor banana mix.

I did a warm water soak and then a run through the ultrasonic cleaner with warm water and that seems to have made a huge difference in getting everything well combined.

I tried the mix and I'd guess I'm about 98% of the way to what I want, just have to adjust flavoring a bit. I went light because I didn't want to end up with soapy/perfumey flavored juice. Plus, banana tends to be strong as it is.

Adjusting the viscosity of the VG at the time of mix makes sense now that I think about it. Looks like it won't/shouldn't be an issue going forward, but if it is, adjusting by the batch is the way to go.

Most calculators assume you are using pure VG and PG. If you dilute it before mixing the calculators won't be able to accurately calculate your PG/VG ratios.
