Thank you for the welcome, everybody! Thanks for the passthrough suggestion too. I swear, it took me 2 days to figure out what a passthru was, but once I did, I thought that might be absolutely essential. I didn't add one to my kit, though. I wanted to wait to see how I liked it.
But I really think I'm going to!
Can. Not. Wait.
I'll check in when it arrives, and yall can talk me down off the ceiling when I can't figure how to work it.![]()
It's actually a lot easier and cheaper to buy an extra eGo battery or two. Computer USB ports don't supply enough power to passthroughs (only supplies .5amps per port), you'll be tethered to a USB cable, you'll have to plug the passthrough into a 2amp wall adapter (to have sufficient power and not damage your motherboard), and it's easier to charge an eGo battery once (or twice at the most) each day than deal with the USB cable. The real advantage is being able to go anywhere with your eGo battery (that is, when you upgrade to an eGo) without having to deal with a cable. Just because you work at a computer doesn't mean a passthrough is a good alternative.
I bought seven passthroughs, due to all the recommendations by newbies, and ended up not using them, and then I bought several extra eGo batteries due to all the hassles of using USB cables and wall adapters. I only have to charge two eGos every day (sometimes, only one, but I rotate three to six eGos all the time).
If you decide to buy a passthrough, though, the best place to get the 2amp AC to USB wall adapter is madvapes.com for just under $10 plus shipping. Madvapes has 5V passthroughs, too, but I'm not recommending buying them. If I knew two months ago what I know now, I would have bought an extra eGo or two back then - and no passthroughs.
Welcome, and have fun!
The nicotine is still rough on your heart... so if the nic addiction doesn't matter to you, why not go with the same experience at zero nic.
Just sayin'....
I always wondered about that.... that's good info. OK what about a USB hub coming from the wall? Can I plug into that? I figure the motherboard is safe but what about sufficient power?
I was wondering about that. At BWB, they offer 6mg so I got those. It's a little confusing, because when I smoke, it's American Spirit -- the full-nicotine ones. I don't mess around. But, I thought that since I don't really seem to have a strong nicotine dependence, there wasn't much point in TRYING to develop at the same time I'm quitting cigarettes. I wondered, though, whether perhaps it was the nicotine that helps me focus. Maybe that's one reason why I can't stop fidgeting if I'm not smoking?
Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure it out.

The .5amp USB ports on computer motherboards will supply enough power for computer parts, but not for passthroughs. That's why so many people have problems with their passthroughs when they plug them into their computers (or into .5amp wall adapters). It's frustrating, too, because suppliers don't tell customers about this little-known detail.
The eGo passthrough can be used with a port on the computer. It is charging the battery while it is plugged in, not supplying direct power through the battery.
You're right, the nic may very well help you focus and heighten your thinking. I always smoked, but I smoked like a TRAIN when I wrote. And I didn't play around either - Lucky Strikes and unfiltered rollies for me.
I'm having some luck with finding work recently as well, and I have been vaping like crazy, but it's definitely working for me and I don't desire a cigarette.
