Got the "those things are bad for you" from a smoker today when I was vaping in my office. I was busy so I didn't have the time to convince the guy otherwise. I just don't understand it. Why would this be bad for me and somehow smoking would then be better? Seems like simple logic to me. Even if they aren't 100% safe they have to be safer than burning things and breathing the fumes.

i think it's jealousy and self-loathing. they hate themselves for being unable and/or unwilling to relinquish themselves from their cigarette addiction, and they're jealous of vapers and those who've quit for finding the ability and strength to move on from something they can't or won't step away from.

in just a short three-plus months, i've been made fun of, fought with, and one person just sort of stopped talking with me i believe cos of my transition to vaping - granted, i wasn't really close to or even friends with this co-worker, but it is still odd, nonetheless. on the other hand, there are maybe a dozen ppl at work who now vape somewhat indirectly cos of me, as i was one of, if not the first person at work several years ago to use and be successful at using an e-cig. so there's that...

Don't try to understand it. Don't concern yourself with such foolishness. You won't change his mind, only he can do that. You will only end up arguing with a fool. Don't argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference....

It's the same mentality as when a smoker (I sure used to!) says things like "Well my grandpa smoked for 40 years and never got cancer!" in order to justify the habit amidst all of the negative information. To them, this "new" stuff could maybe, possibly kill someone, while their cigarette has yet to harm them as far as they're concerned.

Fear of the unknown and general misinformation, the same reason the USDA is still stuck in the "low fat, high grain" 90's despite skyrocketing heart disease and obesity and increasing evidence against such a diet. :offtopic:

endrant, now where the heck did I put my PV? :vapor:

I've gotten that from a smoker co-worker before. Fortunately for me I don't care about this person's opinion because they are an idiot anyway and got fired not too long after that (because they are an idiot). But I told them "You know what else is bad for you? My foot when its in your A**."

The fact that a smoker said that to you is so ridiculous that it would be funny if it weren't so sad. He is either completely uninformed on the subject or has fallen victim to all of the misinformation/scare tactics. Its a shame that he might continue smoking analogs (now thosethings really are bad for you) because of this, instead of giving a fair chance to a safer alternative.
